I got to share this story. I memory of our friend @freightwipper the king of the short haul.

So I arrived home to WI on Friday night. Saturday great time with the grand kids.

Sunday I got a date with my ex wife. (Don’t ask I left her for a another woman 7 years ago after 21 years together. She is the best person on earth and we have remained close friends) well in July I dumped that girl I left my wife for after 7 years and moved back from Denver to Wisconsin anyways.

So I had about an hour to kill so I stop at this tavern. Have a bloody beer and I hit the load board, hence I already have a great load out on Tuesday going to FL been doing that run every other week for a while.

I see a Greenbay to Stugeon Bay WI pop up for 1000.00 dollars it’s 44 miles. Says van. So I email the broker and ask if it can go on a reefer. An hour later he calls me and yes reefer is fine and does 1200.00 work for you. You know the drill up 20% with no ask. Hmmm. I ask him what is the load it’s a dock going up to the shipyard.

Now he doesn’t know I am a retired USCG Master Captain that knows that area well. There’s only 2 places it can be going to. So I say when was it supposed to be there? Dead silence. Docks like this requires a crane and bardge to install big money install usually over seen by an insurance company because the vessel that’s going to be docked there worth millions.

I say 1500.00. We settle at 1400.00 over 30 bucks a mile. Sweet Jesus and I’m going to eat all day for free as I’m a Proud to serve Vet. Can it get any better ???

    Miss you Whipper

No. But I think I’m going to stop by his moms place when I get down there this week. Let’s face it. He is done Trucking and most likely not with us anymore. Once I can confirm the later I can share more.

I'm glad to have found this thread! I don't know if I'll ever make it through all 1800+ pages, but it is good to get an idea of the Schneider Choice program. I'm currently a lease op at Prime Inc. and while I think Prime is a good, honest company, some of the regulations they have for their lease ops I think are overly restrictive. They also have no load board for us to choose from, and it's very hard for me to run a business without a full knowledge of how freight is doing across the country. I make decent money here at Prime though, and the rates I typically get seem comparable to the rates I hear about Schneider ICs getting. I think after I finish my lease at Prime, it may be time to consider Schneider Choice so I can have more freedom without listening to a stupid reefer 24/7. One question though for the Schneider ICs on here: I've heard Schneider doesn't allow you to talk on the phone through a headset while you're driving. Is that true, or just a rumor? If it's true, does it apply to ICs? Or just company drivers?

yeah, well, there's rules and then there's rules people follow. Go to any terminal and half the guys are walking around with headsets. I don't do it......primarily because I don't want to. So, I wouldn't let that stand in the way. Good luck

I wondered how strictly they enforced their no headset policy. If it was very strict, it's hard to imagine how they'd be able to get O/Os. I use mine all the time (I'm at Prime now and Prime allows it) and half the time, I'm not even talking on the phone. I often just use the headset to ask Siri questions about traffic, weather, mileage, etc. without having to stop.

Check ride? Does Schneider have you take a road test annually?
