Thank you for all the information that you gave, the good and the bad. Keep doing what your doing. I start orientation on 11/9/15. I have been an O/O for several years so I'm very familiar with three different load boards. I was just wondering if the Choice board is similar, and if there is any other tips or pointers you could give me. BTW I live in Charlotte. Thanks in advance

    You're welcome...

uh well I wouldn't say it's similar as there's no brokers, no calling in on loads etc and loads get sent to your truck in a matter of seconds.. sometimes a couple minutes of assigning a load to yourself.
Biggest tip I could say is be prepared and willing to put lots of hard working into learning the system, markets, Schneider games etc etc.
There's soo much to learn and the learning never stops.
Don't get discouraged if you make mistakes or aren't piling in the cash right away... it takes time.
Took me a few months before I broke past $3000 in a week after all expenses (not counting the no truck payment weeks).
Also remember as I'm sure you already know.. this is percentage which means the loads you will HATE are the ones that will pay more generally.
Charlotte is a good area overall so you do have that going for you.
    Good luck and have fun!

From what I've learned/been told but don't know for sure to be fact...
Schneider book loads according to how many trucks are shown available in accordance to a time frame and area.
So an IC doesn't pick a particular load and Schneider can't get company drivers to cover it they'll either reschedule it or go to third parties to cover the load.
Also supposedly you can work through Schneider as on O/O running under your own authority to get loads as power only, doesn't work the same as being a choice driver and doesn't mean you'll be offered all loads.
Some loads specifically say no "third party carriers", that's another thing.
Us Choice ICs better always be booked at least one day out cause same day loads usually are slim pickings and aren't great as ICs and Schneider on the company side passed them up. I've found sometimes in some markets you can get lucky booking same day but it's very rare and I avoid those situations.
Same day loads Schneider is out to get them covered but all loads cannot always be covered.
Regardless what you might see on the roads the trucking market as tanked recently.. less loads, lower rates industry wide. Been covered here at Schneider, O/Os elsewhere have talked about it on here, stats show it and news articles have been talking about it.
We are no exception.. although Schneider does have some contract customers pumping out the same amount of loads at the same rate so I'm grateful for that. However once those contracts are up if things don't improve then those shippers are likely to demand lower rates... so in other words I hope things change soon!
In closing YES load counts are down, for sure!

Yep. Among other reasons from time to time. A lot of those brand new 15xxxx trailers were brought into Gary OC by U.S. Xpress. When I first started driving years ago for USA truck I picked up a brand new Cowan trailer from wabash and delivered a load with it before dropping it off in Baltimore. The trailer situation here is just like the tax code, the more you try to control it, the more complicated and out of control it gets.

There used to be a demo on the website but I don't think it's there anymore, once they changed the website to SchneiderOwnerOperators.com. It wasn't a demo like Landstar. The only time you see it live is in orientation. Or find an IC that will show you. As far as freight, it's kinda slim pickins right now. Rates are in the toilet for everyone. Not just Schneider. You can still do good depending on where you run and knowing your numbers.
