But that is the American dream, being owned by your business....I mean owning your own business. Nothing in there that says you need to be successful. Plus if all you make $0.01, you've made a profit. Most of these drivers don't set an actual profit goal, just state they want to make a profit.

Term I hear a lot is...

    "I'm making good money"

Then I asked what good money is?

Problem is a lot of flease operators think earning around of same as a company driver is very good being they're paying a truck off as well.
    I'm just like...... :biggrin_25513:

I agree. I didn't start making good money until I moved over here to Schneider. I was never happy with making the same as a company driver or close to it just because I was throwing money away at a trick that I would still me to refinance at the end of the lease for another 2 years just to own it.

No if you're going to lease, you should be making double what a company guy is making. I know this year if I hadn't wasted the first 6 months I would be netting 80k. As it stands now I'm tracking a net profit for the year of 52-60k. There is what only 6 weeks left before we hit Christmas. Not much really ships the week between Christmas and new years. This year I'm only making what a company driver would be, but I know next year it'll be much more since I'll have all year at schneider.

Yes remember FW... They gave the contract to Swift for peanuts therefore they're going to get peanut level service it won't be long before they come calling back to Schneider

And that's when SNI will double down and profit double.. That's hustle.. U want cheap service you'll get cheap results.. When you come back I'll make you pay me double.. Just like when an agent calls last minute and is desperate for a load to be moved.. That's when you get $5a mile lol

I agree with alot of stuff here. Every mega carrier gets underbid and loses a contract to another mega from time to time. But swift has probly lost a few contracts to schneider at some point or another as well. I worked for a small company on Stop and shop account(C&S) and JB came in and snagged the account and the small company went out of business! Sad and cut throat out here. I am making considerably more money surprisingly but I now have been seein Ruan trucks encroaching on some of our work and settup next door to us cuz they outbid JB on a White Rose account tgat C&S bought that we were suppose to add to our workload. Paying flatrate $350 per day for company drivers. Especially now cuz pathmark ap and waldbaums went bankrupt and we lost those stores. It makes me wonder if Ruan is planning to undercut JB when the contract is up next year for the golden goose (C&S)...and I once again am transferred to a new conpany at the same job! My resume will look like im a job hopper! Even though ive never left lol

If it weren't for this program I'd probably be a company driver working at OFDL, Saia or ABF in LTL.
All these other places that have lease programs I couldn't even consider. Either cheap mileage rate and/or having a dispatcher that can screw you. Nope, not attractive at all.

While I agree with you.... somebody may be happy making the same as a company driver and having the freedom to go where they want. Differnet strokes for different folks.

The thing I will never understand is the folks who are running for $1.15 including FSC who are at the mercy of a dispatcher.

    I hope that's the case.
I was going to trash talk against Swift to the customer but held back.

Some people are happy working for nothing or hauling cheap freight around yeah.. doesn't help us any though.
Most these lease places don't offer the freedom to go where you want though, it's mainly what you said., cheap mileage rate and still having a dispatcher.
Those "paid miles" aren't even going to be all actual miles as we all know. From what I've seen a lot of places don't give the full FSC either.
Like right now on Cel-a-con's website, says O/Os current FSC is $0.20 . so it's cheap mileage rate + a cut of the FSC lol such a joke
