In any case customers are given a certain amount of "free time" for live load/unloads.
If you blow two hours at a shipper for loading and then two hours at a receiver for unloading that's 4 free hours.
In my operation where I pile lots of shorter loads.. one big delay at a customer could destroy my trip plan and I'd lose my loads.
While drop and hooks don't work out 100% of the time when they do you save a lot of time and time is money.
I do agree detention here is a joke.

Or just take loads that incorporate those 4 "free" hours and space your planning out accordingly. I bet you wouldn't see any loss of revenue.

Eh. I'm not really interested in arguing...although your argument has flaws....the biggest being that while you are going on trailer hunts you are burning your 70...for free...but you aren't burning that time up sitting in a dock....and getting detention if you sit more than the allotted time.

And if I can take a 10 on site and arrive the night before....even better.

The shorter drop and hooks here have made me a lot of money soo yeah I like them.
How often do you really go on trailer hunts? I mean really? I get screwed more waiting for live load/unloads when I book them with crappy detention.
Point is you can get screwed with live load/unloads and you can got screwed doing drop and hooks.
    Yes I know, we know.
    Do whatever makes you happy.

The main difference between Schneider and Landstar is... with Schneider, it's basically a level playing field. All ICs have the same opportunity to haul the same available freight. It's us and the load board. With Landstar, there is an opportunity to make inroads and develop personal relationships based on performance and salesmanship. Both good. What's best depends on the individual.

ok, daddy......how much you think LS guys are getting for detention???? Second, 30 minutes to an hour to hunt the mty vs. untold hours to live unload (especially if they know you're not covered by a big company).....they see Schneider or anyone of the bigs on the side of that trailer or on the bill, they know they have roughly 2 hours to get you unloaded or pay the detention. They see Bob's Trucking company on the the bill, and you're gonna be last up because they really don't care if they ever see you again. There's strength in numbers and size ......jus' sayin'

Thing I don't like is competing with company trucks for freight. With LS it's all o/o, so you just play the agent game. I think if you're somebody who has an end goal of being truly independent, then LS would be the way to go.

When you book ahead you're not really competing with company trucks. Schneider doesn't book out a company truck far out where as you can. Schneider actually suggests you do because if you wait till same day there won't be much left.
Markets I go into a lot of the same loads are there week after week.
It's all a game, here or at Landstar.

Here is the video that was brought up

pay close attention starting a 6 min.
It's one big agent game.. if that's what you're into.
