I've only had one job like that in my eight years of being local. And it's only during the busy season for 3-4 months then 8-9hrs a day. And my commute is 15 minutes. And I'm home every single night. Wouldn't trade that for $100k a year.

I agree with you. Ten years ago I would've said differently. Pete's and kws were in a whole other class of truck than freight, Volvo, and international. Now? Not so much. My 2015 Pete shakes, rattles, and rolls. Windshield whippers went out three times. Not w bad truck but not what peterbilts used to be.

Excuse me while i hi-jack your thread FW and vent.....
I had a great weekend planned, ended monday with a great ending to the week, today i was delivering a load in NY, live unload at a grocery warehouse... (Really i should have known better) i get there 12:30, got a door 13:30, I didn't get unloaded until 19:30. As i got 20 miles down the road on my way to pick up the next load that needed to be picked up asap, my phone was being blown up.... Pulled into a closed inspection station and listened to the message, it was the lumper service telling me that i left without paying.... WTF. I pulled a reefer for 10 months before coming to sni, never once was i allowed to get the paperwork from the lumpers without paying!! Also, i even asked before i left! I was told NO. So here i am turning around and going back to the customer.... Sat on hold with Schneider for 30 minutes bunch of back and fourth to find out that the customer messed up and didn't notify Schneider of the lumper fee, so pretty much tough luck for the lumpers.... Not my problem anyway..i was told to tell the lumpers to take it up with Schneider.... Oh well right? The next load i was picking up needed to be in PA by 10, so I could get to my next pickup which was a live load appointment, so the domino effect happened. Im still on the load going to PA but now im going to be in PA, Saturday, with no load.... Yeah and no lube either for the ####ing im taking.... Man... #### happens right? Oh well. Keep truckin -
Thanks for sharing this @t_trucker, I was wondering how you guys handled the long live unloads. Driving a reefer currently and it happens all the time, sorry you ended up with no load, how long do you typically allow for live loads and unloads?T_TRUCKER. Thanks this.

Not very long, in my year of being here i can count on 1 hand the times ive sat longer than 5 hours. Its not often, but when it does happen it hurts bad, like tonight messed my whole weekend up. I was with a small reefer outfit, i was assigned 1 trailer, no such thing as drop n go... Every place i went to was sitting waiting on the lumpers to unload and count... Im reminded everytime i go to a grocery warehouse how much i hate it lol. Oh, and Schneider doesn't pay crap for sitting, i think i got $50 for 6 hours? Or is it 20? Either way the clock doesn't start until you've been sitting for 6 hours.
