And at the end of the day, you're not as tired from all the added stress from driving like a madman.

Not trying to take sides but there are a lot of O/O's running Pete 389 gliders with kitty cats roaring down the road at 70 mph out west getting 6 mpg or less and still making bank, how? They set their rates based on the quick turnaround on freight.

Everyone's business model is different, I'm still a company driver and due to the bonus I get I watch my speed to max out my payout. Now if I were to be able to get a percentage of the loads value then I'd want to book as much profitable freight as I could - preferably with low miles at which point I'd certainly run faster to book the revenue.

So long as your revenue is exceeding the costs you will cover the expense of running harder. Heck, do well enough and rebuild the tranny and motor if need be, just keep your operation in the black.

Yea that happens all the time too. Trucks taking 5 mins to pass me up. Oh well, not my problem. I just set it and forget it.

Exactly. Like I said I've driven both ways, and at the end of the day I was exhausted constantly running up on other slow vehicles and doing lane changes. I much prefer the slower, stress free way.

Also it's a little bit easier to run fast at $2 fuel. I'm curious at $4 fuel if that would change at all. I know surcharge goes up, but still a bit of sticker shock when you look at the pump and it's $600..
