I've seen a reefer sitting in Atlanta oc last year. Same as the flatbeds.
-
At Mercer the van rates are higher there than here.. I know that first hand... Flat conversation is another ball game. That's no comparison and if I had did flat I wouldn't have came back but the waiting list was too long to trade in trailers.. @freightwipper you keep referencing your one buddy that quit Landstar. That's one guy.. Maybe he wasn't too computer savy.... You say the rates here are great but guys quit everyday and take there trucks to Landstar or wherever.. So I find it hard to believe Landstar rates are lower than here.. Believe it or not alot of guys don't have the sense enough to run themselves so first thing they do is blame the company..Pork Chop Express and Home_on_wheels Thank this.

Woo wee this thread is a party

T_TRUCKER., Dominick253 and jakecat22 Thank this. -
Mercer better pay somewhat higher cause you're having to pay for a trailer there and all load are live which means giving away more time. Plus having to pay tolls
All i know is this... i talk to drivers at the truck stops and flat out tell them if they're rolling in the cash all that gotta do is prove it and they'll earn referral cash from me. Sometimes they think they got it good that is till i whip out my pay statements and they get shamed that a mega carrier, orange trailer pulling flease driver is earning more than them.
I'm still waiting to be lured away somewhere better, believe me i would love to never pull a 9 series trailer never again and make more money.
Isn't the ultimate goal of paying for a truck to earn more and work less?
If knew i can it off better elsewhere I'd be there in a heartbeat... problem is i have yet to see the proof.
Even if say Mercer drivers earn .15 more a mile than me. Factor in they have a trailer they have to pay for, they're paying for tolls and all load are live load/unload meaning more free time given away. Suddenly that picture becomes a wash at best.
So here i remain and trust me I'm not attached to saying here, it works for what it is but if i see big money elsewhere I'm bailing!T_TRUCKER. and Dominick253 Thank this. -
Yeah sounds about the same.
Why the higher rates and similar statements?
Oh yeah thats right, they're paying for a trailer and tolls and we pretty much don't.
See man, it's all a wash or worse.
Where's the big money at?
If I'm paying for a trailer, tolls and doing all live load/unloads those rates better be wayyy higher that's all I'm sayingCledus Snow Thanks this. -
Is that van, reefer or flatbed?
Do they offer them all?
Whats the percentage and where do you get your loads from? -
Business is about more than simple math.
No way would my rate be that high running under my own authority.
I haul at least two loads a day, and have done six in a day. Most of my loads are <150mi, with very little dh. Around 80% of my loads are d/h. You're not going to get your own authority and have contracts like these just handed to you. These customers want things a solo operator can't offer.
But I've only been in this industry 18 yrs so probably don't know anything about how things work. So how about you go get your own #s and show all of us how its done?Dominick253 and freightwipper Thank this. -
My Landstar friend was averaging in the $1.70s, $1.80s last year when freight was better.
We compared loads and etc.
I averaged a little but higher rates but i was doing endless short loads, he did longer loads.
Then freight tanked and he was in the $1.20s and sometimes even less before basically saying screw it and quit.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I have no experience in flatbed, i dont think paying for a truck and jumping into a new sector without any experience in it would be the brightest of ideas for me.
I hear CRST trains O/Os without flatbed experience in a short course but it's CRST lol.Dominick253 Thanks this.
