It isn't always one or the other. A lot of guys are astute at both.
As for as fixing a truck on the side of the road. You wouldn't get away with that these days, but years ago I saw guys doing just that.Dominion Transportation Thanks this. -
I got my Chauffer's License a few days after my 18th birthday. That was the CDL of the day. It was 100% legal to drive with it, just not so much out of state. I started driving while 18 in state, went OTR at 19 after I bought the truck.
You can call BS all you want. What I told is 100% true. My dad has passed on, but I can give you the number of my ex-wife. She can tell you the story if you chose not to believe what I say.
The truck in question is the one in my avitar. It was a 1966 7400 White. I paid $3500.00 for it in 1976. My dad co-signed for me on a personal note at the bank. I already had good credit at that time, so the bank was willing. I drove it until I got a very good company job, and sold it for $4500.00.
As far as the new trucks being more complicated, yes they are. Doesn't mean you can not have an idea of what is wrong. There is a garage section, plus there are thousands of threads where people have problems on their trucks. If you follow those problems to the final fix, most times a person can see where the mechanics went wrong, and what the fix actually was.
If someone would take the time to read different threads, and follow the problems and fixes on most all these engines, you will pretty much know where to start looking, and many times know how to fix it yourself. Every sensor and component has a specific reaction when out of wack. Learn these reactions, and you will know where to start the repair.Sipesh, BigNate, Home_on_wheels and 3 others Thank this. -
Your a stud, someone who put business aside to make time to visit with your mother on her day!!! Much respect Captain!!! I did the same took my mother to see a Chicago Cubs game tonight and we stayed through extra innings just to see our team hit a walk off home run in the 13th inning!
