Lol..... if you think I've got the pull to just send out a 6 pack of 100% soy wax Tennessee Homemade wooden wick mason jar candles from my wife's business ( even though I am a major investor) you really give me too much credit.

However I do think I know a place you can place an order.

A true ic in any field owns his equipment and works as he chooses. For example you own your truck. You do get to decide where you go and when. I agree lines get blurred from time to time. What you said about being on legacy with your wife is very telling. You have done it both ways. This gives you ample room to discuss the subject. Really we agree, but always find a way to butt heads. good stuff.

Truck drivers NEVER get to negotiate. Bring back the Hoffa days. Then you'll see stuff change. But that'll never happen. God forbid we all get paid what we actually deserve. Whether it be legacy, choice, Landstar, hauling cattle or whatever.

Sure you get to negotiate. No Hoffa needed. You have a truck. Someone needs freight moved. In our case it's 65%. You negotiate by not taking the cheap pile next to you and move on to a better load. We're not victims.

This is absolutely true. I know several people who just want to drive the truck and be told where to go. They don't want the hassle of dispatching themselves. Nothing wrong with that at all.

There's no reason for them to negotiate. They have all the leverage. They get 300 apps a day for this program. If someone decides they don't like their terms they could really care less. They'll have someone else in their slot in 24 hrs. It's business.

You are a master salesman. I will give you that. My wife just so happens to collect candles. I always stop in beckley and buy some. Sad but true. If I was interested how would one go about purchasing real Tn wooden wick candles. Could use a little good mood around the house, and she is a sucker for candles. Almost feel silly asking.

One of the ways it gets blurred is when and how an IC can take his truck elsewhere. Schneider ICs can trip lease (with an apparently debatable amount of ease), but who is the truck registered to? IC trucks run SNI plates and I assume their cab card says SNI is responsible for maintaining the safety records.

How independent are you if you have to ask permission to use your own equipment?

If you are terminated for 'cause' by SNI does SFI give you a chance to sign on with another company? More than likely SFI will cancel the lease and leave the driver with a "Too bad, so sad" card that has an adorable picture of a teddy bare giving you the finger. As an independent business owner if I lose my biggest customer, or get in trouble with the regulators, or lose my opperating insurance the finance company isn't going to automatically foreclose. They'll look at the situation, at your ability to repay, and their overall exposure and then make a decision.

It's all a matter of degrees. Water at 211 degrees is hot water, @212 it's boiling water. To me, to be a true independent contractor a driver should be running their own authority, have their own insurance, maintain their own safety records/compliance, use their own operating capital (ie fuel, maintenance etc).

I also think there should be a Holy Line of Demarcation between carriers and finance companies. I would prefer them not to be in the same zip code but would settle for them to be on their own property.
