The extra $5k could be used better for an emergency fund though, but everyone's different.

I agree, i would rather hang onto my money than let Schneider hold it.
Part of the reason why they do it is because theu dont want broke people leasing their trucks.

Mostly I was asking about the specifics of the current Charlotte Orientation when leasing a new truck. How long the orientation is and on what day are we cut loose, and does that change if you have to pick up the new truck. I know they need to install the in cab junk and whatever else they do to it. So can I expect to get a load on Thursday or Friday?

I have a prior work commitment the following week that I can not cancel so I need to get the truck and a trailer and find my way to Vermont by the following Wednesday. So really I am just trying to find the most recent info on how Charlotte handles that.

I have read all the Scheider threads and have gathered tons of great info, though I notice that things change from time to time, year to year, and from different terminals and such. So what was SOP last year in Carlisel may not be relevant this year in Charlotte.

Also, if you need to take more than a few days off what is the procedure, do you drop your trailer at a vendor and worry about finding an mt when you come back to work? What is the time frame when you need to let Schneider know you will be off?

Thanks again, I really don't mean for this to be an argument.

The recruiter could fill u in on the details of orientation but it has been monday-thursday thus far.
You see your truck the first day and I think on day 2 or 3 (cant remember) you do a driving test in it.

If you have other commitments right after u get started you'd probably be better off pushing out when you get started.

What happens when u go out of service depends on how long, where you're going out of service and your last load.
For example I just went out for service for a week, my last load was a drop/hook. Schneider updated my assignment to just drop my load and bobtail to my (next available location).
Being my house is near customers and a drop lot I dont have to worry about finding and empty trailer when ready for work.
    Every situation is different.
I have called in right after I finished a load and told them I'm going out of service and I have updated them via my qualcomm ahead of time. Obviously they'd prefer to know ahead of time to plan your trailer situation easier.

Good info man, thanks very much. I would like to have pushed this off until after my commitment but it seems like that may close my window of opportunity due to current circumstances. I will work it out when I get there and see.

What is freight like to Vermont, is that a once in a blue moon thing or do you think I could make my way up there? Worse case scenario I can leave the truck in Charlotte and fly to Vermont, which may be the best solution, then come back and start from there. I was just hoping to use those 3 weeks without payment to make some hay but either way I can manage.

    Thanks again, very helpful

Fyi, SNI doesn't finance their used trucks themselves, only new. They refer prospects to 3rd party finance companies. They have 3 right now, one is currently offering a $5,000 down option. One is for strong credit 680+ and they're 10% down. The other is for bad credit and I don't know what their asking for down.

I know nothing about the finance side besides what they offered me when my term is up.
I have heard SFI acts as a third party in leasing the trucks. Dunno if thats true tho.
