Estimated rate is rather common on certain products paid by weight. Steel and produce is extremely common for that. For example: they could use 42k as a base on a 500 mile run that had an estimated rate of 1k dollars, but the real rate the customer pays, and therefore the rate gets paid to the o/o will always be a little more or a little less depending on how much product actually got loaded. Its similar to a long term contract with a line item fuel surcharge.

I really don't understand why people are still making a big deal about the "estimated miles". Maybe somebody could explain to me because I really don't get it.

It doesnt impact my business whatsoever.
Someone solely relying on "estimated miles" in running their operation is not very smart. Even in orientation they told us NOT to rely on it. Soo why is this still coming up?
Yeah I would like a better system sure, being there isn't currently I don't rely on it.
What I would like more is for CS to stop screwing up appointment times because that IS affecting my operation.

The revenue and the cities are all I need.
I take point A and point B, plug it into google maps find my route and I know I'll come very close to actual miles for that load, then I do the same to figure my deadhead to point A.
At that point I add the deadhead to the load miles USING MAPS and take that number and divide it into the revenue for the load.
My actual rate per all miles is usually with a couple miles using this method.
If it's a big city say Indianapolis and I don't know the customer the actual miles could be off by a few more.
If a load is paying through the roof I won't waste time figuring actual miles because ill be beat to the load.

At Landstar they have to manually go in for every load and do math just to get their revenue they would be getting paid.
For every load they have to get the linehaul rate and then take 65% or 72% of that to figure their cute and then add the FSC to the rate and then figure using that revenue to find out what their actual rate be miles will be.
Gotta do the math when doing this % thing where ever you work.

If I knew I could be earning $600 more a week doing the same thing I would be signing my truck over there.
    Just saying.
Why stay somewhere when you know you can make a lot more money elsewhere doing the same thing?
Another thing that makes no sense to me.
If I knew could make a lot more money pulling a Van I would be out of here in a heartbeat!

However I can't, I have not seen the proof of that.
Mercer for example means always being stuck with a trailer, meaning all live load/unloads... meaning shorter loads would suck wayyy more than they do here.
I mean just today I grossed $864 on 256 all miles the truck drove doing two loads.
That's like $790 after fuel being I barely drove.
I can do that because of drop/hooks mixed in. If I was stuck with a trailer i couldnt run my short haul operation that I do, too much time would be wasted.
With that being said I do look for companies where I could earn more, if I ever see proof i can make a lot more money elsewhere bbbbbye Schneider!

The way you're going you should be looking for an opportunity to bring on another truck and add to your revenue...you seem to actually get the business part of trucking.

    Thank you.
Previously I did wonder about that.
I called recruiting to find out what it would take to add another truck and was told being freight tanked Schneider is no longer allowing current ICs to start/expand a fleet.
Also found out Schneider got rid at the same time a program Schneider had for ICs to train a friend/spouce to team.
The recruiter didn't sound very happy over the phone, I did say to him it sounds like Schneider is making it tough for you recruiters. He didn't disagree with me lol.

How many loads have you lost punching in city to city?

    Enough said.

And in 2016 why does the largest private carrier rely on 1970's HHMG miles.

And do you think they bill that way?

As long as you're willing to shut up and take it SNI will be more than happy to let you.

No i don't think they bill that way but it is just the crappy sorting system we have.
The same technology where we can't watch quarterly safety videos on our own laptops lol.

When I'm in my normal running lanes I don't really use maps for figuring out miles anymore. I run the same areas and do the same loads over and over again I already know about what I'd get paid in my head.
When I'm booking in unknown areas, new customers etc I will use maps and punch in and yes I have lost loads doing that. I have also lost loads having to sneeze and two seconds later my load was gone lol.
If a load pays very high I dont care about actual miles, I just don't want to be beat to the load lol.

It's not about shutting up and taking it, you've been here longer than me.. would you happen to agree it's safe to say Schneider more often than not aint making changes that benefit us if it costs then more money to do so?

I've got a good story from today....
One of my loads I booked turned out to be a "work in load" without an appointment even though it said I had an appointment.
Soo long story short I was late to my next load.
I told my ICA "you know this could been avoided if the correct information was posted. I can't book and trip plan accurately when given wrong information".
ICA: Yes I understand and all that is true but even still customer service wouldn't post that this was a work in load even though they knew it.
Me... in my mind: "yeah because if they posted the truth about the load nobody might want it"

In other words I said something and it still didn't matter. Schneider is going to do what they want, not always what is right or helpful for us.

What the hell are you doing about it? Frankly after talking about the meeting all you guys have done is done a a piss and moan fast ever since but nobody wants to do a #### thing about it.... I guess it's just a whole lot easier to sit there and whine and cry about it instead of actually getting something done somebody even posted a question about where does everyone want to hook up at and sit and talk and not one #### response to it... So that right there says nobody wants to do anything you just rather than whine

I know they won't make changes until the program is in decline but that don't mean I'm not going to complain to them every opportunity I get as well as enlighten drivers who may not know.

If you don't think that they bill actual miles then you're the exact type of driver they want.

IF SNI STILL BILLED HHMG MILES THEY'D HAVE ALL THE FREIGHT.

I have a Friend in my home town who has 10 trucks and 20 trailers he runs auto freight from some of the same suppliers SNI does not many but some and he direct bills actual miles off PC miler and is paid actual by his customer and you believe SNI doesn't have the capacity leverage to bill actual mileage. Name any instance SNI leaves money on the table.

We should set up a monthly IC meeting at the Gary OC where we all sit down and whine about Schneider and tell funny 9 series trailer stories! I'll bring the Popcorn! :)
