While I've never had a rock cause damage directly, I have had a rock hide a bolt. I'm not militant about removing rocks, but when I'm doing my walk around I'll get the worst of the rocks I see and of course all metal.

I bought a set of Ameristeel (Generals) and it has been the best rock resist tire I have ever owned. It does pick up a couple here and there but not even close as every other tire I have owned. 99C8B286-5927-4D1C-BA64-F4121EB5C149.png

Treads can seperate due to stone drilling just like from any puncture that causes moisture, air, and dirt to contaminate the underlayment or steel belts.
These first line tires threw their tread and did not lose air pressure due to carrying stones in the grooves that led to stone drilling. 88ED53C7-3F8F-4DDA-9E85-E92EEEC003D8.jpeg

I've been doing it for years also. I'd rather spend 30 seconds kicking the rocks off the landing gear feet and prying a rock or two out of a tire than have some 4-wheeler calling 911 or trying to make me stop to discuss his broken windshield. Sure I might pick up a rock after I have just pulled one out but I did what I could. Truck windshields have gotten paper thin in the last decade and I hate having my glass chipped or broken. I see a few drivers clearing rocks but not very often.

Our mechanic was in love with those tires for a while. None of the drivers cared for them when we had to do any off road work. But they never had stones stuck in them either.

Go straight to a good pliers, if your fingers can get em lose, theyll probably shed on the road.

I dont like em, but half the places i go including home are gravel, take me longer to pick em all out every day than id spend driving

    gentleroger and Qbf594 Thank this.

That has happened to me more times than I care to remember, especially when building road. That is why I have a 6' pry bar chained to my headache rack.

In all seriousness, not my often sarcastic remarks, rocks are great. They actually act a bit like studded tires, and help on ice.

BennysPennys and Last Call Thank this.
