Clear example of "excessive, compulsive behavior". I suppose you line up all the screw slots in outlets at home too. Unless a big rock, and a chain is about the best way to remove those, removing stones from the tread is a bit much.

I'm a company driver now, but when I was the one buying the tires, I tried to stay on top of my tire maintenance. And even though most of the time those rocks didn't amount to much of a problem, there were several times while messing with them that I noticed a nail or screw in time to get them out before they went in too deep. Had I not been picking rocks I may have noticed the nails/screws anyway. But maybe not.

    Dude.... You're scaring me
Yes. I'm renovating. Yes I put in recepticals and absolutely yes they must be oriented with the slots over the ground and the screw slot vertical. It's a code requirement.

Ok no the NEC really doesn't go into it. But they should. I mean, it's better my way. ... Looks and function. Always know which way to hold the plug, right?

    Ok. Don't judge me.

Did that a couple of years ago with my F150. Should have driven it to a tire shop, and had them pull it out.
So there I was putting on my spare tire, just to drive 3 lousy kms.

I'll bet those tires do well on ice.
