I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere, any information is greatly appreciated.
My company is located in Raleigh, NC.
I have a truck that I've bought in Cleveland, OH. One of my drivers will go and pick it up. I know, that with a hunter permit, he should have no problems in getting the truck to Raleigh, NC where we will add IRP plates and the rest of the documentation needed to start hauling freight.
But I've found a trailer that I like in OH. Can my driver pick up the trailer as well and bring them both to Raleigh NC running on temporary plates or is it so that if you pull a trailer you need to have IRP plates for the truck?
Thank you

If your temp plate reads 80k - you should be good
Stork Thanks this. -

I picked up a newly built car carrier rig tractor and trailer in 2016 in Ga and drove back to Ky with no issues from Ga, Tn or Ky. Both units had temp tags.
Many years prior to this I drove a new to me, used road tractor with temp tag to pickup a used flatbed in Ky with temp tag to bring home in Ky. I was stopped at the first scale I crossed. He told me I couldn’t do this with a temp tag on the tractor but let me go without a ticket. You may want to call the states you will travel through. -
Grab it and haul ###.

Don't know about NC, but the GA IRP system gives you a pdf of the cab card soon as you pay. I'd get that, plus print out the IFTA license (also available as soon as it processes in a day), and have them on me for the trip, with nothing but posterboard signs on the doors with company name and dot number. Far as the trailer, the Maine agency I use will overnight the actual plates in two days. I wouldn't even bother with temp registrations.
If your driver don't mind night/weekend driving, bring the rig back overnight on a weekend. The only places I seen desperate enough to have weigh stations open in the eastern half at that time is VA and KY, and not really as much lately since they have covid as another excuse not to work. -

the 'Hunters Permit' temp covers you to bobtail around looking for another carrier who supplies IRP.
Other states issue temps with apportioned info [the states just like an IRP reg] and are legal to haul freight.. -
