Picky, picky, picky! Have carriers ever been this picky?

I've only been a member of this forum for about 6 months but, during those 6 months, I think what I'm seeing is a fast and furious move, by carriers, toward hiring with "white gloves". And not just new drivers, veterans, too, seem to be getting the cold shoulder when trying to hire on with a different carrier than the one they are currently driving for. Is this really happening? If so, why? Has it ever happened before? If so, what was going on in the industry at that time?:smt102

With CSA2010 about to be implemented, a driver's infractions count against the driver...as well as any company that driver works for. If you have no points under CSA2010, you will have no problem getting hired by any company you qualify for (age, experience, etc.). The more points you have, the less likely a company will be to take you on as your points become their points.

Everyone who is driving currently or is a carrier currently has points.......

Even if you have a 4-Wheeler nail you in a parking lot while you are parked with Jersey barriers around your rig and caution tape wrapped around them...you will get points.....

So your saying regardless of fault you get points? I am a student and am waiting for my trainer and I to be seated in a new truck. Your saying I have points even though I have zero miles under my belt?

I'm not being sarcastic, just trying to understand.

    Not saying you are wrong.
But I find this very hard to believe.
Why should I get points for something that isnt my fault...IE I reference a NON-PREVENTABLE accident...
If I do get points for this HOW DO I FIND OUT how many points I got against me. Also how is one to disbute the point system.
IF your guilty your guilty but no reason some one without fault should get a "CHARGE" on him..

No you don't have points...yet. What this means is no matter what happens, there will be points, even if you are totally innocent. Depending on what happened and who's at fault, the point value changes.
CSA 2010 is changing the industry, and for the better. (IMO)
I recently changed, after 20 years with a carrier. (they closed their doors).
I have over3MM accident free miles and my last ticket was 1992. I literally had companies standing in line to hire me.
My cohort from the company had a heck of a time getting hired. He had more than 1MM accident free miles, but two tickets in the last two years. He did get picked up, but he had to work for it.
It's just the nature of the beast. Get use to it!

I can see why you say the CSA 2010 changes for the better, but points for a non-preventable accident seems somewhat extreme.

I have one ticket on my MVR from September of last year in my personal vehicle for running a stop sign. I had no problem with that passing through safety, but that wasnt in a CMV. I assume a ticket in a CMV would be a different story though. I am still learning the ropes of this industry even though I have been reading this forum for quite a while; and I know I will never know everything and will continue to learn daily.

Right, you are responsible for any airborne 4-wheeler penetrating the marked exclusion zone and inflicting body damage on your rig.

It's not only all the new rules and regulations that will be going into effect. You have an over abundance of drivers out there right now and some carriers can afford to pick and choose from a bigger pool than what was available in the recent past
