Well I'll try my hand at a "guest review" of a BBQ joint called The Smokey Pokey located at exit 174 off of Hwy 35 near Stillwater, OK.
It's located at an independent truckstop with ample parking in two lots with not only a to go menu, but a full restaurant and bar.
One of the interesting things about the stop is the wide selection of boots on offer (cowboy/girl) and a fairly good selection of clothing, not something you normally see at a truckstop. Of course the real reason I stopped here was the advertised pit style smoked BBQ.
I am a huge rib fan and was interested in a full rack, well I was not disappointed with the portion as they use St Louis style ribs instead of baby backs, 1/4 rack would be more than enough I assure you! My order came with Texas toast and I ordered some fresh cole slaw.
I asked for my ribs to come dry as they have a nice section of sauces ranging from mild to smokey and further to spicey. I liked the smokey style, it complemented the ribs which were very mildly rubbed allowing the meat flavor to prevail.
No way I was able to finish the meal and I have enough for two more meals lol. If I were grading I'd give this place 3.5 hogs, my ribs could have been slightly more tender, but the overall quality was right on - and the wait staff were awesome and made me want to shut down and stay vs continuing onto Fort Worth.
If you ever are running the I-35 lane through OK and have a hankering for some BBQ (they also have chicken and brisket) you won't go wrong with The Smokey Pokey.

I have been tortured all night by the aroma coming out if my crock pot.
Someone tempted me the other day with his chili so I had to copy him!!
Chili's been simmering all night and smells delish!
Time for some breakfast!!!!
