Hey,
Anybody think they take advantage of drivers here. Prices 2x what wall mart has, atm fees are a joke, and half the managers act like you need them more than they need you. They scream at you when your at the scales apparently there always under staffed and it takes 4ever to get anything done. they charge you for everything any body else have issues.

It's called corporate bs! Any big company like that has that mentality anymore.
They go to college to learn that stuff!
Maximize profits to the max. Who said you can't squeeze blood out of a turnip?

The T/S's have a captive audience since there aren't many places for T/T's to park overnight.
-
well they "may have" a captive audience......BUT, if parking is free, and there are still some free parking truck stops, all one has to do is park there and eat out of what he brought along........or simply go to the eatery across the street, if there is one. we are not as captive as one would think in "some" places.orion3814 and panhandlepat Thank this.

Rerun8963 your forgetting those who don't have a way to cook in the truck for whatever reason. Also 99% of the T/S's have free parking. Many drivers like myself do not want to spend 24/7 in the truck,so we go in the T/S for a meal and maybe watch a movie or a little TV.
-
well duhhhhh These places are set up to steal your money. END OF STORY
But in their defense it does cost lots of money to build a truck stop . Most likely it cast just as much to keep it up as it does to build it .
Truck drivers can tear up a anvil with a rubber hammer you know
panhandlepat and Skunk_Truck_2590 Thank this. -
Well it does cost money to have that tv there for you to watch, for someone to be there cooking, for the laundry room, water, showers etc. ANYONE who opens a business is trying to MAKE MONEY; otherwise they would not start a business....just like wal mart or ANY other business.
IF the prices are too high you can take measures to reduce your on the road expenses and then NOT be dependent on the TS for your needs. I would hope that anyone who is out OTR would have some supplies in their truck for an emergency. You can make instant soups (they have tons now in their own bowl) if you just get a probe for heating water, or go inside and use their microwave...there again another expense for them that you can use. You can make sandwiches etc.
If you want out of the truck go inside, take a shower, watch tv (why not get your own) walk around and keep yur money in yur pocket....it does NOT have to cost a fortune to live OTR.Rerun8963, Blackjack and scottied67 Thank this. -
It's really sad to say, but I will agree with that last line. I think the prices stay high because they run the place's just like a #### toll road though. Collecting high profit long after it's been paid for.

luvmyhubby yes I do keep some just in case food items in the truck. Yes T/S's are can be expensive depending on where they are,but did I say a driver has to spend money ? It isn't physcially or mentally healthy to stay cooped up 24/7. The problem is many drivers don't budget their money very well.

what pray tell did i forget...???
i said, one can go to an eatery across the street...or did you miss this...????
you are NOT captive to the truck stops...you are not captive to your trucks.....
you are captive to your wallets if one plays video games at the truck stops or buys tons of junk food, or gadgets and gizmo's for the truck or the cb radio....instead of BUYING a mini fridge, or a cooler, and stocking up on cold cuts, water,etc,etc.....
watching tv is still free if i ant mistaken.....at the truck stop.......again unless one spends money foolishly on other non essential items, and cannot afford to buy his own......
and i don't believe 99% of truck stops have free parking......some YOU DO pay for.....if you don't fuel up, or spend X number of dollars inside....
