Not the same Western Star they once were when they were hand built in BC Canada, that's for sure. Other problem is the junk components everything is built with now. Off shore crap in name brand boxes.
For the heater there is a campaign to replace the HVAC control panel that is supposed to fix that clicking.
What's the clicking noise from the heater? Mine makes a noise, but it is the blend air door opening and closing with the auto temp control.
they replaced it long time ago and pulled dash out replaced plenum still does it. it's almost like a blend door noise they say there is no blend door or a contactor type its switch. clicking back and fourth if it's on full hot it's not bad or full cold but u set it in between and it clicks away it gets loud
they had western star engineer come out look and listen to noise i was there and still cant fix it. it sounds just like blend door opening closing just really loud one but they say nope not it got another one for u you run hard for awhile stop at idle cab gets nasty smell coming off motor the fresh air duct they have no clue cant figure it out either
If the recirculate door is closing all the way and sealing up you have a leak somewhere. Check the little doghouse on the engine side for gaps in the sealant. Also check the heater core where it goes thru the firewall.
