When you do an oil sample use polaris labs..They blow the doors off those stupid lil desk top test kits..They are so detailed that they tell you when your sister had her 1st period..lol..
There is a way to chk the truck for ou of service violations n such but im blank on its name..
If you wanna buy a truck go to letstruck.com and he(kevin ruthaford)has a kit that will show you everything you need to know bout buyin a truck..If i remember it also helps you decide if you should buy a truck..
He has a show on sirius as well(ch 146)that is taped around 3pm central but played 12am eastern 7 nights a week and from 4-7 live on sat and sun..

    EGR is like $1200.
The injector cups are gonna go no matter what, look for one that has had this done already.
My D13 I got with 460K on it from Penske. They are maintenance FREAKS.
It used maybe a quart, maybe a 1/3 gallon oil between changes ( 25K).
Already had the cups done, and the EGR.
I had almost no issues with. No issues with drive train at all.
Run away screaming from one with a Cummins.

Yes for sure call Dr Rutherford, he knows just about everything and what he doesn't know, he knows.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that Cummins are easyer and cheaper to fix

We have number 1 Volvo dealer in the nation here in Phoenix.
    OUTSTANDING shop.
Guys with pure Volvo's get in and out, very reasonable too. The Cummins have A LOT more issues, and they always add several days because they don't stock the parts.

Go to some places that repair heavy trucks. See which ones have red motors torn apart, and how many. The ISX's have come along way ( 13' & up ), but if your going to get a Volvo, get one with a D13. I think you meant 435 HP also, it's plenty for common garden variety freight hauling.

Thanks for the info. How much it cost to replace the injector cups? The steel ones are holding good?

No clue. It was done when I purchased the truck. Truck is sold now, but never had a problem.
Service manager also highly recommends servicing the DPF as a PM every 180K or 18 months. That's around $1600. And takes 2 days.
He said never fool with the sensors. Let them go bad, and replace as needed.
There are multiple guys on here with D13's well into the million miles.
