I've never seen trains platoon, they have a lot of space in between

1.Have you ever heard about the idea of platooning?
    B. No
I just googled it. OMFG what a horrible idea...

2.Do you think that the implementation of such systems would:
    C. Worsen working conditions

    3. Do you think that the implementation of such systems would:
    A. would affect traffic flow negatively

    4. Would platooning have an impact on the road safety?
    C. Yes, negative

    5. How do you like the idea of spending time in the truck on other activities, while paying lesser attention on the road situation?:
    C. Negative

    6. Would you feel safer in an automated truck?
    C. No, less safe

    7. Would you still get satisfaction of driving in an automated truck?
    C. No, less

    8. If possible, would you attend additional training on truck platooning organised by your company?
    B. No

    9. While being in a platoon, do you think that the truck automation would lower your road awareness and reaction time?
    A. Yes, it would be worse

    10. Would you like such systems to be implemented in the vehicles of your company?
    B. No

    11. Do you think that the overall result of implementation of trucking would be:
    C. Negative

    12. Do you think that the automatec trucking and platooning are systems that will be some day implemented in the transport industry?
    B. No

    13. Anything else you want to say about platooning?[/QUOTE]
Platooning is one of those ideas that sounds great in theory, but in practice would prove to be very dangerous and would result in the loss of human lives. One of the most important aspects of safely operating a truck is space management, and platooning seeks to minimize the space cushion. A much better solution would be to increase roadway capacity by adding lanes to existing roadways and building new roadways altogether, instead of trying to cram an ever-increasing number of vehicles into existing roadway capacity.

Platooning is like fusion energy. Very promising, and 30 years away.

without physical coupling and central control, it's nuts.

As far as the human component, just look at what train drivers have to do to stay "with it" on mostly automated trains.
All sorts of controls just to make sure they don't quit paying attention altogether.

your age and years on the job please.

1.Have you ever heard about the idea of platooning? Yes

2.Do you think that the implementation of such systems would: Would not affect working conditions

    3. Do you think that the implementation of such systems would: would affect traffic flow negatively

(Passenger cars would grow impatient around a long line of trucks and become reckless)

    4. Would platooning have an impact on the road safety?
    B. No, no impact

(Problem with foolproof plans? They make better fools.)

    5. How do you like the idea of spending time in the truck on other activities, while paying lesser attention on the road situation?: C. Negative

(Not much else to do in a rolling box, really shouldn't be straying too far from the controls either)

    6. Would you feel safer in an automated truck?
    C. No, less safe

(Allow me to introduce you to some of the automatic transmissions I've worked with.)

    7. Would you still get satisfaction of driving in an automated truck?
    B. Neutral, the same as in the current situation

    8. If possible, would you attend additional training on truck platooning organised by your company?
    A. Yes
    B. No

    (Do I have a choice?)

    9. While being in a platoon, do you think that the truck automation would lower your road awareness and reaction time?
    A. Yes, it would be worse.

(Absolutely! This has already been proven)

    10. Would you like such systems to be implemented in the vehicles of your company?

(N/A, our company is too small and we rarely send more than one truck at a time out in the same route)

    11. Do you think that the overall result of implementation of trucking would be:
    B. It would have no impact

It will take so long to integrate the savings will never recoupe costs. But there might be some modest efficiency gains.

    12. Do you think that the automatec trucking and platooning are systems that will be some day implemented in the transport industry? A. Yes

Too many people invested in pushing this down our throat.

    13. Anything else you want to say about platooning?

It might just take less time to move everyone into a Walmart distribution facility and do away with the quaint notion of "cities" "home ownership" and "individual freedoms" just place a citizen in a rack in sector 7-G and give him wifi & a laptop.
