Hi Everyone. Looking for some ideas from you regarding trailer parking during hometime.

I am in Richmond, VA. I will shortly begin school with Roehl. My recruiter informed yesterday they no longer have a drop yard in the city; no where in the state for that matter. :biggrin_25510:

What are some ideas that have helped you all facing the same problem? Thank you so much, i appreciate your thoughts.

What about a truck stop, or someone else's drop yard? Is there an RV storage area that you could rent when home? I live in a small midwest farming town so I just park on the street by the grain silo. USExpress parks on one side, I'm around the corner and on corner three is a Cox Trucking driver. I guess that's another possibility, is there somewhere with street parking?

Any abandoned factories or trailer dropping out near an interstate. Just look around your area and you'll come up with something.

since you live in Richmond, try the Celadon terminal on Rte 60 (Midlothian Trnk) or ANY trucking company and ask if they will allow you to park on their property and if so, what "fee for parking" they would want. there should be shopping malls near you as well, again go INSIDE and speak to the manager, especially the manager of one of the "anchor stores", meaning for instance, if Sears is the largest store at the mall, thy most likely are the "anchor store".

there are (or were) so many trucking companies on that Rte 60 in BOTH directions, so inquire up and down that road.

remember many (if not ALL) trucking companies REQUIRE a SECURE place to park a rig during home time, do not lie to the company where you park, because if something should happen and that truck ain't parked where you said it WOULD BE, you can be screwed...

also by the way, check with tow companies as well. they WILL have in most instances locked yards, and BIG dogs......

We have a driver in Lincoln that drops his trailer at the local truck stop and deadheads home from there. Just be sure and use your trailer door lock and the kingpin lock if you are going to drop your trailer. If you want to leave the truck as well use the steering wheel lock, get something like the Club or an air cuff lock. Then all your bases are covered.

When I took the truck home, I parked the trailer at the local Speedway truckstop. That is, until some brain dead moron backed into a brand new Transcraft flat that I was pulling, and bent up about 2 feet of rubrail. Never left a note, never found out who did it.
After that, I started parking at the I80/90 exit, about 10 minutes from my house, where there was a nice paved lot to drop trailers, and someone in the toll booth 24/7

The county I live in does not allow tractor-trailer parking on residential streets. I live in a neighborhood. It's a real snag to me. I drove around earlier this morning (in my personal vehicle) looking around at some shopping centers for phone numbers to call. I want to call & ask because I don't want to get towed. In one lot, right under a tow sign, was a PAM trailer parked for hometime. Good luck to him/her. I did call two storage places last night and left messages; no answers yet. I have a few days to tell Roehl forget it if I can't find parking anywhere but I can not give up trucking because of parking?!!? I have my DOT physical this Wed then school needs to be scheduled. Grrrrrrr!!!

Yeah I have no truckstops around here for 30 miles :biggrin_25512:

    Thanks for

The recruiter said it has to be a safe, secure place within 5 miles of my home. I don't know what orifice I'm going to find THAT in! :biggrin_2551:

Wonder if Celadon has CDL school? Yes I know Midlothian. It would be great to find an actual trucking company and keep my car there to drive home while the trailer is parked. Up to now I've been thinking Ill have to get a taxi.

    Thanks for the suggestion :)
