Please Define "Micromanage" in trucking.

    Lot of threads here saying, "hey check out the company I work for! They don't micromanage" or "I left that company because of all the micromanagement."

    What are clearcut examples of this so-called micromanagement? Please do share so I can help determine if my next company will be one that micromanages or just does regular size managing. Thanks.

    micromanaging means you are watched, told what to do and how to do it. Every little thing they have a say in.

    It is something like what a parent does when their kids are young and stupid.

    Some desk jockey calling me 3 min after my 10 hour break is over asking why I'm not doing my pretrip. Any questions on when or why I stopped somewhere. Telling me what route to take and where and how much fuel to get at each stop.

    Counter point to this is some drivers need micro managing, even if they wont admit it.

    yeah, I know that's common. Its still micromanagment, im a big boy, I know where I can get in to get fuel.

    And it's a viscous circle. The more micromanaged a driver is, the less thinking that driver will do on his own, and the more micromanagment they'll need.

    From what I've seen on TTR a new driver can expect a little micromanagement at the start of his employment. A new driver is a total unknown and until you've been there awhile and prove yourself they'll keep a good eye on you.
    If the scrutiny doesn't lessen or go away entirely after you've been there a couple of months they either still don't trust you or it's their normal way of doing business.
    At that point you'll have some decisions to make.

    A driver facing start. Also if you have so many hard brakes, lane deviations, safety calling about all that nonsense all the time. Oh you did a sudden lane change that set off the get a call from safety asking why? A friend...been driving for 25 plus accidents.etc..finally sells his truck and goes to work for swift on a daily job pulling for Walmart. Safety kept calling him asking him about stupid #### as I stated above..he told them if my record and 2 million miles doesn't speak for itself then screw y'all.. they lost a very experienced driver because of nanny micro management He quit after working there about six months and is now retired..
