WOW!!! That Swift driver is an idiot!!!

I've always tried to be respectful with cops and most of the time it keeps me out of trouble. They are only trying to do their job just like the rest of us.

@Ridgeline it sucks that you had to go through all that trouble in the middle of the night and the guy deserves to be fired. It also kinda sucks that his wife is just "piling it on" although she has reasons of her own...
I suppose we can hope that he'll learn from all this?

Some people think they are above the law. About 5 years ago I was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. It was a shady stop I don’t use my badge to get out of stuff . I went to the court house the next day. The court staff asked how I was doing etc. I told them I was there to pay the ticket. They offered to take care of it. I said nah I got caught so I paid the fine.

I have only hired a lawyer twice for traffic violations. The first time I was 18 years old and guilty as sin, I took a day off and went to court, the judge decided to gofishing that day, I hired a lawyer so that I would not have to take another day off, he got my ticket thrown out.
The second time was years later, and was one of the trucker lawyers, he got my 62.50 ticket I was not guilty of raised to 383.50 before I finally told him I didn't need his help any more, lol I spent a night in jail for that one. lol

Some times, you can get some really good entertainment value.

Sooner or later, you will have some driver with his driver cam filming a DOT check, "Sir, I am not the driver Joe Moron, I am the traveler and the individual and the steeringwheelholder and the travel agent of Joe Moron.

this morning I got a call from a sheriff deputy in Ohio, who had one of my trucks sitting in a rest stop with the driver arrested. So at 2am, I had to call one of my drivers who is sleeping at home north of Detroit, go pick him up and go get the truck.

I won't post much about the details why the driver was arrested other than he was pulled over and he argued about being pulled over in the first place. He called the cop stupid, told the cop that he didn't do anything wrong and was in hurry, blah blah blah.

The cop got pissed off after 15 minutes of hearing my idiot driver going off in him, he just pulled him over because the trailer lights were blinking and there was an obvious problem that may be fixed quickly by cleaning the plug - that's what we did. He said to me that he wasn't going to issue a ticket, he knows the driver can't see the back of the trailer so he wanted to tell the driver what was going on,

The cop was patient and told the driver to let him speak, which the driver refused to do so the cop called for backup, was put in cuffs and then arrested for a few things that I won't mention.

I keep telling my drivers just don't argue with anyone when you get pulled over, I will back them and most of the time pay for the legal costs to get rid of the ticket if it isn't warranted. Speeding is an exception. But in this case this driver, he is still sitting in jail waiting for a hearing to set bail, and I won't go there to bail him out, and he knows it.

I just talked to his wife, she called me asking what happened, she said he can stay there, she isn't going to go get him.

Earlier you went on record saying several of your best drivers were convicted felons.

I wonder was this guy one of them?

Because what you described sounds like a felony stop.

And my second question is; If this was one of those drivers, can we assume he is no longer in the 'best' column?

That said .... OK update time.

The driver is terminated, I couldn't take his crap over this, he lied to me what happened when I talked to him at 10am, he seemed to forgotten that the truck does have cameras that do record sound.

I would love to post the video but lawyer guy said no way. BUT take my word for it, it is funny ... he just could not shut up about being pulled over, he never let the cop tell him about the lights.Right out the gate he is yelling and screaming out the window about being pulled over.

Nothing in the truck that he or I needed to worry about, however it wasn't as clean as I like them to keep the trucks, pretty much needs a good wash down with a power washer. I offered to the cops to do a full inspection of the sleeper but they declined, they didn't look at the logs.

The arresting officer is cool, he said the idiot (my words) didn't want to listen and it was all about the trailer and the lights, nothing more. He even was going to compliment the driver for driving at a reasonable rate under the speed limit and using proper signals but it never got to that point.

His wife had it with him, she came by the house a little bit ago to collect some personal stuff, she said to dump the rest in the garbage, and that's what I did.

She said he will be served papers, said it is a long time coming with this BS, this is his 9th job in the past 14 years that he got canned from and every time, it was something that was stupid. The last time he was part of a Rail crew inspecting rails and he got mad at one of his co-workers making a joke about trains and just walked away from the job, no one knew what happened, the cops were called and a search was on. His wife said he just appeared at the front door telling her he lost his keys, and of course she said, he "lost" all his money. When he applied at my place, he did really well on the road test, everything came back with a clean record. I NEVER had an issue with the guy until now and he would pitch in when someone had issues near by. Great with customers BUT as his wife said, sometimes something would accumulate and boom! he would go off the deep end.

The truck will be cleaned, I already have a driver for it, and life will go on.

By the way, the guy can't make bail and I am sure not helping him out. His wife canceled all the credit cards in the middle of the night because she said if she doesn't do something about him now, it will never get done.

what would you do if he "blew up" and rammed into some line of cars..??

let him get a job elsewhere's, you owe hm nothing....
