You're 100% right, all jokes aside.
The driver may have one calm, brief explanationn to make to the officer. If that doesn't solve things, the only way to handle things is through the process. You don't win arguments with customers or cops. Even if you "win" they decide who is put in "the penalty box."
Please don't argue, you have no power.
