"If this is a truck stop, and the truck is stopped, what's the problem?"

Two times in my career I’ve walked back to talk to the driver behind me.

First time was at Dad’s in Idaho Falls (now the Flying J). Got fuel, pulled ahead, and that was that. I walked back to tell the guy that I was waiting on a tow truck.

Second time was last year at a crowded Pilot. After I came walking back out the guy behind me was just swiping his card so I told him I was going to walk my dog quick before leaving.

If the app doesn’t work to start the pump I always go inside to start it. I’m not taking the chance with card skimmers and such.

Oh but no no no, your card doesn't work, the guys behind you does. So you need to move your truck to parking while you figure it out. LOL

    Long FLD Thanks this.

It would just be a courtesy on your part to tell truck behind you "gotta go inside to get pump turned on and may be a couple minutes"
No big deal on you but what does everyone think when you don't see a driver for 10 or 15 minutes?

Walking back to tell them what's going on gets better results. Waiting until the dri er is frustrated enough to walk to you is like lighting a fuse & hoping you can snuff out the burn before it explodes. Only-children, text-only/online-only people think a conversation is outrageous or for emergency use only. It's insanity.

I've walked back to tell the waiting driver the pump is running super slow, the satellite pump doesn't work, DEF pump isn't working, numerous things before. I don't see it as a burden. It takes a minute. It can defuse a heated situation from developing. I would love to never have a conversation with a stranger until end of time, but the above seems like the normal thing to do. Maybe I grew up before every relative, teacher, school sign told kids their feelings outweigh anything else in society?

So much to do, but plenty of time for replies here, with extra attitude cause some dude "bowed up".

    Ridiculous

I really like them truckstops with a chiropractor or barber inside. Really feels like the red carpet treatment when I stroll out to pump #3 to hop in the truck after a readjusment or a fresh flatop. The looks I get from the trucks behind me sure do reaffirm that feeling of class and beauty only a new haircut can provide. Upfront parking is the icing on the cake!

Over the years after pulling up behind someone at a pump I’ve had a few guys come back to my truck and tell me about situations going on that have saved me lots of bs. Gave me a heads up to move to another pump or sometimes go to another fuel stop instead of sitting there getting frustrated and losing time and miles. Always figured if i’m the lucky one having the problems i’d pay it forward to the next guy waiting in line.
