I never doubted he is a great experienced driver, Landstar doesn't take just anyone. However, driving is just a fraction of owning a successful trucking operation. That's the stuff that you two don't know yet, and it can be costly to learn. You guys have to be open minded to learn what will work for you. Picking up and utilizing tips, like in my above post, can easily score you one great paying load a month, or more. Here is another. Use lane match to see who is booking loads delivering or picking up in the vicinity of your house and call and introduce yourself. Chat them up and call or email them weekly to try and get some freight from them. This is what separates you from the BCO hitting refresh waiting for a load too come to them. This year, a good 70% of my freight never hit the load board. I was first call or email. Always get your rate sheets emailed from the agent. Now you have their email address for status updates, as well as an easy way to let them know your truck will be back in their area and your looking for another load out. You do this as soon as you book the load going to the area, which gives them time to come up with something.

I see what you are saying, and it makes sense. I am totally trying to take in everything that you all are helping me out with... I feel a little overwhelmed and I think that's partly because I was on that loadboard all day, which was good, but it was a lot.

I have a question for you, though. Is it okay for me to call the agent when I find a load? I found a load earlier this morning that would have been a good one, if they would have just bumped up the pey enough to cover tolls. I thought we should call... the broker is from here and I know his family, so I thought we should give it a shot. I am forward like that and I am a huge fan of following up and status updates, etc., where my husband is less so. I just don't know if it's frowned upon, or if it's okay for me to contact them. I work from home and have the time, so it's almost easier for me to do it, as I am not going down the road. I don't want to overstep my bounds, though.

Of course it's ok. There many wives, brothers, even paid dispatch services that do this everyday. I thought that is what you were doing already. If you think you're going to get high dollar freight by seeing a load post, calling your husband and then having him call, you're going to lose a lot of loads. The first caller gets the load.

I wanted to get that one cleared up real quick before I got into trading "lady" trucker stuff, you know.

As far as Mrs desert skies you could always make me an offer, shes is kind of high maintenance but I will throw in my two youngest as a little bonus just for you my friend.

My wife doesn't ride with me but she is and knows the load board better than me, she gets aggressive with finding loads and making us money. She also controls my settlement card???????? hmmmmm not sure about that! LOL

But all in all we wouldn't be as successful as we are without her doing what she does.

That's what I was thinking.. there was one going to Ft. Smith that popped up when I was on the phone with him and as soon as he said it, I told him to call... he spent time looking at all of the info, when I was thinking he could ask about it when he got them on the phone, but he wasn't hearing it... so by the time he called, they already had two other calls on that one load... crazy how fast it goes. I think he might just be being too picky and its taking too much time when the loads come on the board. There are a ton of other guys out there calling on it as soon as it hits the board...
