RETENTION PERIODS:
Information offered by former employers that is considered to be negative
in nature, can be reported for a period of up to seven years after the
employee terminates their association with the company. General
information, used to document the fact that a driver worked for the
company, will be on the report for up to ten years after the driver
terminates their association with the company.
DAC reports are considered consumer reports, and the content allowed within
them are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Those that offer
information, collect that information, and retrieve and utilize that
information, must do so under the standards and criteria of the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (FCRA).
You have a right to know what is in any consumer report on file in your
name. You have the right to challenge any information contained in them
that you consider false or misleading. -
Just because you've read negative on the forum doesn't mean those two companies will be bad for you. You know if we were all broke from the same mold we wouldn't have so many companies out there.
I'd suggest you look under your state unemployment site and see who is hiring in your area or for GA. Might find some more companies looking for drivers. Have you checked the dump drivers? Garbage truck drivers? Think about the jobs you said you'd never do.
As far as staying in touch a laptop is good but a cell phone is better there is nothing like a voice on the other end.
Best of luck. -
Ok well I was fired from my job with the county after downloading a movie (no not a porn) onto my computer. Yeah it was wrong but I beleive they did it in an effort to scale back anyway.
I know there is no magic words or anything that will make me feel better. I am in the process now of getting information on different companies and I plan to apply to a handful of them and see what bites. -

Thanks for all the advice and help. I think what I am going to do is apply to a few companies and see who responds. It never hurts to apply and see what my options are. From there maybe I can talk to a lying recruiter and try to get some stuff in writing.

man good luck to you...ive been having that same feeling in my stomach for the last 2 months knowing that my job for ten years is comming to a end..nothing worse then not knowing whats in store for you tomorrow..it will be hard at first but it all will fall into place..

First and foremost, you must take a refresher if you intend to go OTR. You've been out too long, and have ZERO experience now. You won't even be considered by the larger companies until you have that documentation in hand.
3 years is the max you can stay gone. Some even require 2nd seat training, after 1 year of absence.
You may find a local job with an O/O. And you may have to move to get it.
It's not going to be a cakewalk, by ANY measure of the stick.
We have jobs in my area, if you're willing to move and apply. The paper has been jammed with listings this past 2 weeks.
Some even come with free room and board (farm labor). But a job is a job...when a man is in need. -
When you're a husband and dad your #1 responsibility is to provide,a lot of times that duty will carry you away far from home whether it's trucking, construction, working offshore or whatever.
But you got to get tough man, your family will understand and adapt to the situation most likely you will be the only one crying and feeling sorry for yourself.
Been there done that.
