Hello and good luck to you. Some options are check your states labor depts lists for d.o.t. jobs, like snow plow driving, dump trucks, etc. I had a neighbor who had worked for less than a yr of otr, then after a couple of yrs was lucky to get hired by a construction company driving dump trucks part time, then moved up to belly dumps and etc. My experience was I had taken a couple of years off driving to work a retail job during the past recession, and lost it, then decided to go back into trucking again. I was just under the cut-off time with my past employer, so I didn't need to go out with a trainer. However I did contact a few other companies and explained my situation of having over 10 yrs past experience, but having had almost 3 yrs of not driving. Some weren't so bad, just saying, drive with a trainer for 10K miles, then we'll put you in your trk. Another I called, and some who didn't even bother to return my calls, but one wanted me to train for 6 wks with a trainer, then team as a second seat driver for another month or two. Bogus!

Thats why I say, good luck to you. If you have alot of past experience, then maybe you might luck out with some company that may or not require you to take additional 're-training' or not.

But basically, get ready to be treated as a 'day one' trainee, with most of the companies out here. Its just for safety reasons, plus there is a lot drivers out here, in spite of the lies being told that there is a driver shortage.

    Good luck to you,

    don

Think she wants local and she probably can't even get a good OTR job with no experience in 4 years. Plus living in Michigan doesn't help any.

Check with R&L they may have something local for you. May be a body job but that is still a job.

Cargo Express seems always desperate for new drivers, and its right there out of Boise, have you tried calling them?

    Check Careerbuilder & Craigslist.
Check local courier services in yellow pages. This isn't big rigs, but gets you back in the game slowly.
Check intermodal/drayage/container companies; one of their 0/0's may give you a chance.
Check with your local unemployment office & dept. of labor about WIA program which may pay for driving school or refresher school. Most companies will require a refreser course since you haven't driven for awhile.
