Hello! I have been in the navy for the past 8 years and will be separating this week(honorable discharge). Two years ago I was riding my motorcycle and hit some ice on an exit ramp and flew off the ramp into a tree. I fractured my neck in two places. The police officer wrote me a ticket for improper control which I signed at the hospital. In court I was found guilty and turns out on my driving record I have a reckless driving charge, convicted march 2011. Is there any company out there that would consider hiring me for otr or do I just have to wait for the 3 years to elapse? If there is a company out there, I am eligible for the g.i. Bill for the cost of cdl training. Thank you for your time.
Josh

There is always gonna be a company that will hire you, however the trick is finding them thank goodness your ticket was not commercial vehicle related so maybe a company will take that into consideration...

You will have to call some co to ask . They might not ask but question your judgment to ride in those conditions . Right now there is a plus in hiring vets . Will this injury limit you ? And do you want to bounce around a truck ?

Also if I was you I would save that gi bill for a rainy day, the new thing now is free cdl training for a 1yr driving commitment and anybody can do 1 yr..

I appreciate the quick responses! My neck is fine now it doesn't hurt at all anymore. My dad drove a truck for 24 years and its just something I've wanted to do as well.
I did not know there were companies that offered free training for a one year contract. That's pretty good! I've talked to about 5 companies so far and they all have told me I have to wait until march 2014 before they would consider hiring me. I won't give up though, I'll keep calling all of them.kerosene jockey Thanks this. -
mje Thanks this.

It's a double-edged sword, these companies which train you for a one year commitment. I have to agree.. good idea to save your GI Bill for a rainy day. That's what I did when I decided I was tired of it and wanted to do something else.

My company ffe has a free trucking school for a 1yr commitment however the catch is to get a cdl from tx you must live in tx and the trick to that is get a po box at a usps store in tx have a bill sent there with you name on it and BINGO your all set...
