    A wise choice indeed.

Another wise choice would be to remove CRST from your list of potential companies.

Well I'm back home. Sorry I didn't post. but I never went back after the 1st day. Too many things that I did not agree with.

    1. Their training program cost $4900 and they take it out of your check after you start driving solo for them. That's fine with me but I expect more out of training program for $4900.
    2. I asked the trainer specific questions about the training that I was not comfortable with. I asked if we'd have a truck to use to practice pre-trip inspections on and other things and her response was that we'd get 30 minutes during our lunch break to do that. I didn't like that because I want to pass my test on the first try and for $4900 they'd better have an instructor stay with me after class as long as I'd like to assist with any areas I want or need help in.

    3. I was specific when I interviewed that I wanted to do OTR not regional. When I talked to my trainer she told me that the only OTR loads that go further than Missouri are reserved for the husband/wife teams. One of the main reasons I want to be a trucker is to see America...as much of the 48 as I can. I do not want to be confined to a region.

    4. To me the rate of failure of their students was a direct indicator of the level of training that I would receive and I expect good training especially if I'm going to pay $4900 for 28 days of training and that's only training no room and board.

So I didn't go back, and no I did not sign any contracts or anything so I don't owe them anything. I was hopeful but there were just too many red flags.

I think I am going to wait and attend the training at the community college in Elizabethtown. I know I'll get quality training and it's only $3500. I'll just keep on studying the manual though until I'm ready to go to the school.

    Wannabe -

I'm gonna butt in here - I scanned back through the thread and don't see it - but I may be going blind in my old age.

have you considered paying up front for an independent school (My choice is SAGE - others have other choices)? If money is an issue, try talking to the folks at the unemployment office about the various grants out there. You might qualify for the WIA program, for instance (I did)

After that, you graduate from school beholden to no carrier.

Money isn't an issue but the suspension I had is. I will have to wait until about October to try with a company such as Schneider. And Swift wants me to wait a year. But there is the community college down the road that is established and their fee is only $3500.

It sounds like you will be in more control follwing your plan wannab, be careful not finish school too quick as they prefer to have you fresh out of school, or pretty close.

    What the bleep!

    Hey Wannabe...

Did not catch the 1st part of where you went...

But I live down in Hardin County....And am finishing up this week with ECTC's CDL school... They are Great!! Good People...and half the cost of others..

Watch out for the Big Dogs school in shepherdsville....We have not heard good things about them...
I gave my cdl up years ago...:biggrin_25513: So when I started doing research to get it again and found out that in order to get hired you must have training through a certified school...
and finding this forum has helped alot...
I just wanted to make sure that I was trained for what the requirements are for today...

Besides with all the crazy people driving today...You really need to learn to drive safely..

    Good luck

I didn't read every single reply between you and aftershock but I would be mindful of who I soigned on with there are a ton of companys that will drop a duce on your dac just cause they can. I personally know someone that got an abandonment from western express and some negative crap from cr england put on his dac and he didn't do either. Arrow trucking out of tulsa ok has about the most liberal hiring policy I have ever seen lol. Paschall trucklines out of murray ky is the same. Both will train you but I don't recomend arrow to any one.

Knight transportation is lax 2. Don't give up just keep trying. And once you been driving for a while you will bash the big companys just like the rest of us lol. Good luck
