Wow! 25 posts in a day since i last posted. Thanks everyone for responding; i would like to keep this post going if possible. And, also if we could sort keep more on the topic that would be cool too.

1) Scarecrow, i am wanting/needing this info because i am shopping around for an OTR company to go to work for. Yes, i have a local/regional job now, but i've been meaning to make a move. i did not have any major complaints with my present company (until recently---this is a subject for another thread). The recent B.S. is only incidental to me wanting to leave; It's just another reason, but not the main motivation----i actually want to do OTR again for the adventure and fun of it. Yes, you can brand me insane, but i am what i am.
i think compiling what i consider to be pertinent information will help me make the best choice for my personal work patterns.
Really for me, it all boils down to miles and scheduling.
2) Lew and everyone else, i would like to expand on the concept of "shift encroachment." Hopefully, it will be an on-going expansion of the concept.
Anyways, i mentioned that i thought that a 1 hour "encroachment"/ "invasion" into the established sleep period is acceptable; i've been doing quite a bit of research regarding sleep patterns and i think some scientists/neurologists (don't remember exactly who or where) stated that changing your circadian rhythm "up" (later) 1 hour or "down" (sooner) 1 hour per day in 1 hour increments is acceptable.
This means, in my example, that in order to change to work the night shift ("flip-flop")this would take me about 8 days to comfortably and heathily do so. In contrast to the immediate demands of dispatchers and companies that is probably all too common.
a) Incidentally, i heard a neurolgist on one podcast (and i can provide the link for this one if anyone's interested) state that alternating schedules, for example night shift to day shift every other week is the worst thing you can do. Because you can never get used to it. It would be better to stick with one shift.
So for any of you team drivers who do the alternating one week you drive during the day and the next week at night etc., and i know---i used to run with these types of guys, you may want to have a little disscussion with your partner about this because i think it's going to take a toll on your health. Maybe not in the short term, but definitely in the long term. Team driving is hard enough to sleep. Why not make things easy as possible?
i would always volunteer to drive night shift permanently. My thought was i don't have a family so this way when we get home, the other guy could spend time with his family instead of catching up on sleep.
3) One way Shogun could cover 1000 miles and be compliant/"legal" to the HOS 11 and 14 hr rules would be (and this is subject to debate) is if the truck could be operated at 100mph or faster.
a) Obviously 100 mph is not legal on any interstate or smaller road, but we are assuming no collisions here.
b) Apparently, speed is taken in to account for HOS record of duty (i never understood why) and therefore the logs, to the best of my knowledge, would technically not be legal. However, the 11 and 14 would be in compliance.
c) Shogun, i agree with the spirit of your philosophy and until recently i would do the same----if i'm 1 or 2 hours from home and out of hours, you could bet i wasn't stopping until i made it to my own bed.
However, the risks of doing things like that are recently rising; If you get into an accident and there are serious injuries or worse---even if it is not your fault, you can be held liable criminally and/or civilly because according to the HOS rules you weren't supposed to be in that spot at that time.
i just thought you should know that.
d) i also agree that the HOS rules don't dictate how much sleep i need or when i'm tired-----my rules are stricter! -
Powell, I can certainly appreciate that information, and I am well aware of the ramifications of those actions. I cannot recall anytime in my time spent over the road that I could sleep 10 hours in a truck. Its rare for me to do that after a friday night going to calls, pursuits having my adrenalin levels up and down all night when I am wore out at the end of my shift, I may only sleep 8 hours. Everyone is different though.

P.S.
Lew, if i'm not mistaken (i'm a little disorganized as i don't listen to podcasts nessesarily in order--it's an ipod shuffle thing---can only hold so much info at a time), you are planning on stopping pocasting.
If there's anyway you could possibly continue, that would be so awesome as i find your podcast in particular to be so informative and helpful. If you feel you must take a break, then i understand.
If i could get the link to your spreadsheets, that would be cool too.
Thanks. -
Miami is not bad at all. I got 9 off on that monday, and the other 2 off on tues morning.
This week was GRAVY. Left home Saturday noon, 4 drops in Miami monday, 2 picks in south Fla (for the reverse front haul) and 3 drops in Wis today weds.
3200 miles, 4 days, hit the dock 9 times. I'm home now, contimplating crackin a beer...(grin) -
Nov to Now, 88,000 Miles

Ok, i finally got my paycheck--direct deposit would probably be a good idea; i've been too busy---no time to turn in the paperwork. Also, while i did get my scanner to work, i somehow can't get the scan to be clear enough to read. So, i actually took a picture of it with a digital camera. It's still not real good but better than the scanner. It will have to do for now:

According to my calculations, i got 3171 miles for the week, so at .48cpm something is not right here. We notice that they don't list the miles in the mile column and i will ask managment about that next week. Also, i think i got 16.75 hrs for the week, not 15.5.
i think one trip may have got left off or put on the previous week's even though i'm calculating sunday to sunday and that's how our pay period is setup.
Still a good check though.
Also, the gross really isn't $1,477.77, it's $1454.23 because i got reimbursed for tolls. We have e-zpass but i forgot to bring it with me.
b) Also, yes i know---the YTD is rather low but it was real slow at the beginning of the yr and also i had another job until recently so really my actual YTD for all jobs is probably like 14K or something which i agree also sucks but hey---the economy. Plus i just got put on linehaul so things should be picking up bigtime moneywise.
c) i would ask that all of you do the same---posting of your paycheck. If you cannot or will not, then i please ask that you at least continue to post your exact mileage for the week.
Thanks.Last edited: May 24, 2009
mceheel Thanks this. -
This next week (we are 2 weeks behind apparently) was not as good:
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi223.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd31%2Fsencraig%2Fck2-1-1.jpg&hash=e4a549c532bd242c1be8d65f9bdc69b8)
i worked local, so not only did i not get any miles (local is not paid mileage), i only got 34.75 hours.
Easy drop and hook type stuff though.
i suppose i should be happy given the economy? (right)
Come on everyone---keep posting your mileage at least. Which "shift"---1st, 2nd or 3rd you p'uped and/or delivered in would be so helpful too! -
2750. starting on the 26th (day after Labor Day), ending today (30th).
13200 for the month, (1st to the 30th), these are hub miles, pay is probably 5-10% less. 4 days off.
Knight Transportation dry van.
To be honest, best month I've had in a year, right place at the right time, I suppose.
Not complaining, though!
