Someone please talk me out of this. In the late 90s, I drove for CRE and than a private O/O, stopped driving due to the wifes dislike of me being gone. Well, she has been gone for years now, Ive built a new career in real estate, and I am successful at what I do, but, I miss driving. I miss the turbo, the air ride seats (although my SUV has an air ride seat) and the road.
I have good credit, no debt, no ties and very little expenses, so Im considering taking up trucking again. The plan would be to drive for a random training company for a year or two, than perhaps buy a truck.
Im just hoping someone will remind me of the bad parts of the job, as I can only seem to remember the good times.
Thanks
Please talk me out of this!

Go for it man! Buy your own truck as soon as possible and enjoy your travels.
Higgins Thanks this. -
It has been said that in life we might forget the details of something, but we always remember the way it made us feel . Such as you might not remember a persons name you meet, but if they make you laugh, you will always remember that face and the fact they made you happy. If a certain store makes you mad, you will forget WHAT happened to anger you, but you will remember not to shop there again.
That having been said, you recall the good times of trucking, so you feel happy. That is a good thing. In you case, the bad things you can overcome, I think.
Go for it. Just be sensible. If you made in real estate, you have the ability to succeed.Take your time, make a plan, and think things out before you dive in. You will be OK. Good luck.

I won't talk you out of it....
Go for it!Higgins Thanks this. -
If it is what made you happy then and is what will make you happy now then I would not worry about the rest. Go for it!
Higgins Thanks this. -
If you are free like I am and not tied to anything than you can really save money by staying out on the road for a while and socking your money away which is what I'm thinking about doing in the near future. Not getting any younger. I've been in and out of trucking since 1989 but been thinking more about the years ahead and don't want to screw it up.

I half expected to get flamed, Thank you for the responses.

You know all that crap about 'seeing America while getting paid for it?' You'll see some great sights and wave at them as you drive by because even if you had time to stop, there's probably no place to stash an 80' rig nearby...
It takes about two weeks to realize the sleeper on that truck is smaller than the average jail cell...
About the only real chance you'll have of getting laid is from a Lot Lizard and that is NOT a good thing...
You think you're not making any money in real estate right now? Wait until you get that first paycheck...
Nobody that you work for will give a crap about your best interest. You are nothing but a tool to them for getting a job done. You are less important than that tractor you drive. If it'll make them look good to the customer, you'll unload that trailer by hand in sub-zero weather...
You WILL gain 20 pounds from eating truck stop food.
You will shower in some of the nastiest shower stalls you have ever seen.
You will crap in a toilet that has been used by over 100 people that day.
You will spend a fortune on electronics for your sleeper, GPS, CB, Cell Phone, etc..
And a whole bunch of stuff I can't think of right now...Everett, lupe and truckerdave1970 Thank this. -
I know there's very little money in trucking, its not for the money. I've thought about buying an rv, but I can't validate spending all that money and never getting to use it. Everyone I know that has one spends more a year on storage than they do on gas. -
I say go for it. Only you should have the money to buy a truck and pay cash. At least have the money for a very good down payment and have money saved up for repairs. I wouldn't suggest having less than $10,000 in cash reserves.
As far as company driving. If driving is what you love..like I do. Then go for it!!!
