Hi.I applied to PMTG recently and it looks like they want to hire me.I was offered either local or regional work out of the Jersey City area.Assuming I make it through training, etc...which position offers the best $ currently? I'm an owner/operator right now so this is going to be a big transition financially.I still have some debt to wrap up from my current business.I looked into PMTG last year and the recruiter said they haul 3-4 cars per load, locally. Now they are saying it's 2-3 cars. From what I've read, it sounds like local is usually the best job they offer. However, not sure if I can get enough cars to deliver in this economy to make good money with local.Any advice you can give would be great.Thank you.

I remember a while back, a local car dealership got shut down by Chrysler. I guess Chrysler had loaned them money for the cars on the lot (and they werent all chryslers either), and they didnt pay them, and the cars got repoed. Everyone thought the dealership was totally shut down, until a sign appeared out front that said "SERVICE DEPARTMENT STILL OPEN!" ..LOL. It's on Napier Ave in Benton Harbor, MI, at the I-94/I-196/US-31 bypass junction....you have to pass it on the 1 mile jog between 94 and us-31. i'm sure someone else on here saw this.
Anyway, I suspect GM probably does the same kind of loans.
And repossessions are always high in bad economies, and dealerships are no exception. I honestly dont see why car hauling would be doing so badly right now. But I drive a 53' dry van, so ..truckr4life Thanks this. -
Hey all..looking for info about PMTG (aka Bavarian Motor Transport,Tristar).
How are you guys doing running regional in the Northeast?
I'm supposed to start with them 9/16/09..I'm on the fence though..leaning towards tanker work where I feel comfortable and have lots more experience.
Any help would be great.
Thanks. -
Hey all..I'm finishing up orientation tomorrow..should have my truck on monday..picking it up in Jersey City..not excited about getting a truck sight unseen..but hopefully it will be ok.
Orientation was uneventfull..small class..from what the trainers are saying one of the last classes for a while..seems they have hit their magic driver number.
The physical for joining the company was intresting..if you have trouble doing a chin up..you wont pass..some other physical exercises..nothing too bad..back/neck xray..then typical DOT check up.
Hotel was ok..decent breakfast every morning..they tried to make us share a room..but we changed that without too much trouble..after all this is a solo gig..why should I share a room with a stranger?
That's it for now..if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll try and answer.
For those of you who took the time to give me the info..Thanks again!
See ya in the Northeast region..where most drivers don't like to drive..LOL! -
See you next week!! Good luck!

Hey Rainman..you were at Jersey City when I was loading..I had my hands full at the time..so I didn't say hey..my first week ended well..takes time getting in the swing..I like it though..busy work.
I'll introduce myself next time I see you.
Enjoy your weekend. -
We are busy again, thank goodness. I'm heading to the island for tomorrow so I should be loading out of Jersey if they have any cars. Glad your first week ended well. It does take time to learn the truck and all so just be patient and you'll be fine. Every day the job gets easier. You will have bad days where you want to turn the truck in but you will have to just get over them and move on. Hopefully week 2 will be as good as your first.

Hey rainman,
I start orientation on 11/2/09. I am otr from ohio, what can you tell me about the lanes i will be running. -
You will run everything east of the rockies. You will be out 14-16 days and home for 2 full calendar days. The way hometime works, if you get home on a Tuesday, you will be back in the truck on Friday. If you want to hit the ground running you will want to do your best to stay in the northeast corridor. You will learn the job quickest that way by loading and unloading every day running short loads. Granted running that way is hard work at first but you get used to it. Any other questions, don't hesitate to post and I will get back to you as soon as I can. We are busy right now. The busiest time of the year so if I don't get back to you right away that's why. Good luck.

I'm in Delaware and have an opportunity to either work for PMTG or haul cointainers as an owner operator. I'm on the fence (considering the current economic climate and nobody is buying cars, etc.). I was told by recruiting to expect $40k - $50k first year (although they have advertised $72k) and $70k there after. Does that sound right ? Is there enough work ? What do you feel the longterm outlook is for PMTG ? How much hometime can I expect ? These questions are directed especially for rainman1971 but I would appreciate all qualified responses. Thanks all.
