Why are pneumatic tankers called pneumatic tankers?

I know that the word pneumatic means air pressure. But what is the connection between pneumatic tankers and air pressure?

A non-flammable load like fatty acid or some oils we hook up air pressure and pressurize the tank which then blows the product through the off load hose into the customers tank.

Pneumatic = dry flowables using high volume low pressure air to fluf up and convey dry products

Blow off has two meanings, pneumatic blowers are usually PTO driven 'blowers' like the GM units on top of a dragster engine BUT non-flammable liquids can be pressurized and things like acids are usually 'blown off' using compressed air, either plant or tractor supplied.

All of this is correct, and well-worded to boot.

I would just like to add that flammable liquids are pressured off using nitrogen supplied by the facility.

It’s using air to help push the load off.

Because compressing air can make static electricity so you need to pump -or- use customer supplied N2.

And because compressed air contains oxygen whereas nitrogen is an inert gas.

Yup, used to purge transformer oil trailers with N2 until we got a new compressor with dessicant system then using a digital hydrometer on the outlet we would purge with dry air to a dew point of -50 and got rid of the N2 cylenders.

When you say that you delivered hazmat on a dry bulk, do you mean that you delivered hazmat on Pneumatic tanker?

When you say pneumatic can be return when MT, does "return when MT" mean you always pick up at the same shipper, and then deliver, and then return to the same shipper always?
