I think you’re uncle is believing in a myth that some including me believed for a while about weapons in a commercial vehicle. There is nothing in the fmcsa or dot regs that say anything about carrying a weapon. The same laws in each state apply to every one.Even having a gun if it’s in your sleeper lock in a box and ammunition locked in a separate box I don’t know of any state that it’s illegal to have.Thats not saying there could be states that it is,I just run in 2 states where it is legal to have like that.Ive been to military bases and checked it in with the guard they would hold it at the entry and return it when I left nothing ever said

Apparently there was a case over twenty years ago of an officer arrested a motorist for having a tire thumper, claiming it was a "billy club" ( http://www.wnd.com/1998/11/3441/ ). The law apparently remains the same to this day, leaving it open for interpretation by law enforcement and the courts ( Law section ).

If I’m reading the article right it seems he was in a car.A tire thumper or hammer is how stated in the federal Dot manual is how they require a driver to check air pressure in route ..I don’t understand how a state could view it as a weapon unless it was used as a weapon.

The White Knuckler handle just feels good in your hand. Had that one now about 3 years.
I too am a lifelong blade guy, or "Knife Nut" as was stated previously.
Still mourn my stupidity for selling my Gerber mark II Commando Knife back in the 80's.
Daily pocketknife for me is a Victorianox Swiss Officer I have had so long the red plastic is long gone,
and the remaining brass rivets are worn smooth. Handy for ther scissors. And File.
And fish hook tool I have modified to fit like a tire valve stem removal tool.
Another daily carry is the gerber Multi-tool. That has a serrated and straight blade in it.
So I carry 3 knives every day; cause you never know.

Had an instance a year ago where this 18 yr old girl came airborne into the parkinglot and landed upside down on top of another pickup. I run outside and there are 15 drivers standing around filming as a fire starts. Igrab a fire extinguisher and knock the fire down but it keeps flaring up. I'm yelling for someone to kill the engine, but they all stand around and film.

Finally, some guy runs up to get the girl out of the truck, but he cant get the seatbelt off. He kills the engine and i slice the belt. No one had a blade. How do you call yourself a driver if you don't have a blade? The thing that reeeeeeaaaaaalllyyy pissed me off is all of those camera welding sidewalk sissies that just stood by so they could have something to post on facebook.

I carry a variety of EDC items onboard my truck. Including the Leatherman Raptor. It's basically a rescue tool for paramedics. The scissors can cut through a penny. Use it for any precision cutting.

I have several fixed blades in my emergency bag. ESEE 6, Becker BK2, and Knives of Alaska bush camp are my best in the truck. I also have a Swedish mora, which is bright orange for utility.
