Hello guys,
my dad is running a small truck transport company in Czech rep. and we encountered today a huge problem.
One of our trucks were stopped by police on a road in AUSTRIA, for a “common” inspection. They said the truck has bad breaks and needs to be towed to the service. 2500€ finem 2500€ towing and now waiting for service(3000€ expected). They took the registration plate so we cannot move the truck, whatsoever.
It seems as a scam to me, but I would like to know, whether any of you ever encountered such a behavior. Or whether there is any possible way to dodge the paying this huge fines for nothing, the truck was completely fine.
Thank you

can you try to explain me is that big police check for all trucks or some smaller local inspection?
how big is workshop where they bring your truck?
if it is small police check and small service it is scam
i think hard, try to prevent brake changing, insist for technical inspection by independent and authorised TUV inspection stationAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -
@daf105paccar and advice?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I think that is the best way.
Coupled with getting a lawyer.
BUT only if the OP can miss the truck for at least a week or 2.
I have to add that Austria is not known for scams but does have very high technical standards.
So the OP better be shure that the truck is 100% ok.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
It'd only be a scam if there was nothing wrong with the truck.Another Canadian driver and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

be careful with your speed in austria, they dont have speed tolerance, they put cameras inside of construction sites on highways, in tunnels, in front of tunnels, at tunnel exit, they measure average speed on some routes.Another Canadian driver and Cat sdp Thank this.

I've heard if you run out of fuel on the Autobahn that's a major fine so unless one could prove they had some kind of hole in the fuel tank, the authorites say there is no excuse for running out of fuel, + the fact that it creates a major hazard on the freeway specially with some vehicles doing more than 160 mph on the freeway.daf105paccar, Another Canadian driver and Cat sdp Thank this.
