That's a different issue because there is children involved in your case.

I agree also.Having kids as passengers is one thing. But still to have someone come up to me and say I can`t smoke while I`m driving is too much. Now if slip seating is involved, companies most generally keep smokers an non-smokers apart.I drive at night so all I do is drink coffee and smoke cigs.I don`t through butts out the window,I put them in a peanut can with a snap lid.I also keep windows cracked in the down position, and keep air freshener in the truck. But as a smoker,I have my rights too.:usa2:

The strange thing is all of the smokers that I have talked to say they would never throw their cigarettes out the window, yet whenever I ride my motorcycle on the interstate, I am constantly dodging lit cigarettes flying out the windows.

I am not a smoker, have a partner not a smoker but......the OHIO LAW is just wrong. I just want to know how they are going to police this, should be quite interesting.

Yes, I agree with you. There is no way any laws should be passed regulating this. The no-smoking issue should be up to the owner of the truck. In a slip seat operation smokers and non-smokers should just use common sense and respect in regards to all aspects of sharing a truck so I apologize for veering off topic.

Mack E-6, I apologize to you if my responses seemed aimed toward you, but they were not. I was just venting because of dealing with so many inconsiderate co-drivers. I just came out of my own tractor and into a slip seat environment so the topic is especially volatile to me!

No sweat there, driver. I did the slipseat thing for about the last 2 years, up until about 3 months ago. I don't know how I was able to stand it.

I am from Ohio and voted for issue 5. I think it is the best thing that has happened in the buckeye in a long time. No more smelling that crap when I go out to eat, I can actually go bowling without smelling like a chimney when I get home, and I love it. I am an owner operator so I don't have to worry about someone smoking in my truck. I wouldn't drive a truck with a smoker or in a truck that smelled of smoke. I have escorted my best friends out of my house to smoke, why would I be ok with it at work? It is a personal choice to smoke. Light em up and kill yourself if that is what floats your boat. Thank god that the people of Ohio are on my side and I no longer need to be concerned with smelling that rancid odor ever again. I have the # programmed in my cell phone and you better believe I would not hesitate to call it if someone is breaking this law and affecting me. It's about time this happened. The people spoke up. We don't want to smell you anymore. Go Buckeyes!

If states want to ban smoking ing public places, that`s fine ,they have the right. But I am a smoker and what about my rights?I`m not asking to sit in front of you and your family to light up,but I do think people are going overboard on this matter.I live in Georgia and they have a smoking law now.I`m fine with that. But dont tell me I can`t smoke in my truck,or in my house.I don`t come to your house and tell you that you can`t drink a beer or do anything else. What makes it all right for them to tell me what I can and can`t do??I`m an adult and have paid my dues and obey the laws, but this is too far!!:smt025

It doesn't matter to me, nor should it matter to anyone, if someone wants to smoke in their home, in their car OR truck, or even outdoors away from other people then I agree that it isn't anyone else's business. The law says that you can't smoke in public places or in the workplace. If you share a truck then you are in the workplace. To me, and the majority of the people of ohio, the right to a person smelling fresh air supercedes a smokers right to light up around them. They can get upset all they want, we voted and they lost. So now it is up to the smoker. They must either find a place where nobody else has to smell it or go without. Sounds like a good deal to me.

you call it a "rancid odor"............question.........were you ever a smoker yourself...........?? seems like all the former smokers call it "rancid odor"....

    just wonerding, that's all............

as far as "dropping a dime" as you say, would you call in a driver in a truck that's smoking...........or would you be minding your own business, since afterall, it's not your truck.............and not affecting you, unless you're stopped in summer's traffic, windows open and his smoke is coming at you.........would you call it in then and report him/her....???

i don't smoke myself, but the politics of some of these anti-smoking laws are way off the wall...
