Smoked since i was 15 and wish i had never started.

I do try not to inconvenience people with my second hand smoke but honestly just being on the freeway breathing all the fumes is way worse than a cigarette, so unless you live in the mountains with no traffic then whining about second hand smoke is pointless.

When i am driving long haul my consumption almost doubles though, the sitting still doing nothing makes me reach for the pack a lot more often. If your genetically predisposed to lung cancer your screwed either way, although I am sure smoking doesn't help

I get flatulence really bad when next to smokers, so when they light up I let em rip. Fair is fair. I really like to eat corn beef hash with cabbage then go for a beer in a crowded bars. I love equal rights. It even gets better if I were to get forced into teaming with a smoker.

flatulence for and for a flatulence night

But there are legitimate business reasons for traffic on the highway. The benefits of the traffic that produces those fumes outweigh the health detriments that they cause. I don't think that the same argument can be made for smoking. Does your smoking, done solely for your enjoyment, provide me with benefits that outweigh the detriments?

Personally, I don't really care too much about second hand smoke, just pointing out that your argument is guilty of false equivocation, or at the very least, weak analogy.

Isn't that an old Steve Martin joke? Goes something like:
"Do you mind if I smoke?"
"Of course not. Do you mind if I fart in your face?"

I understand that some people like to smoke. What I don't get is why they do it habitually. Maybe to relax at the end of a day or on the weekend...but to need a smoke throughout the day means you are a drug addict. It's a character flaw. If I owned a business I personally wouldn't hire anyone who smokes. But I don't believe in telling other people how to run their lives. If you want to smoke, or allow people to smoke in your home or business, I'm not going to tell you otherwise.

Yes I smoke, have since I was 10, now 59...
The real drug addicts are those who drink alcohol. That is the biggest killer of human life. How ever the government gets their pockets filled with the taxes on booze, as they sip their drinks.
    AND
if smoking was SO bad, then why does the government ban all the foreign cigarettes?? Because of nicotine, or lack there of!!!:biggrin_2551:
Same as the "war on drugs" The government could shut it down if they wanted to. Except they make a ton of $$$$ from it!!!:biggrin_25516:

I dont smoke never have and never will. It does make me have severe asthma attacks and also being around it makes me have extreme nose bleeds. Thats why I hate going to the states that allow people to smoke inside and I usually have to stay in my truck.
