Liked Garmin better other than the fact it was slower recalculating if you didn't break your trip up into waypoints. It would put you going through an entire different state sometimes if you didn't do that.
Liked rand because it had bigger lane photos and on screen weather.
Both are good but I preferred garmin.BlueThunderr Thanks this. -
Rands software is superior, garmins hardware is superior.
Though every iteration on rm, they keep changing the interface to show less and less useful information and make it harder to navigate the menus. They should have stopped developing the software at the 720 mark.tscottme and BlueThunderr Thank this. -
It's mind blowing that after how many truck versions between these two manufacturers that they can't put together a more complete GPS....All they would have to do is poll or talk to some actual truckers...Instead they try to add stuff that really isn't all that useful lol

I’m surprised how many here are speaking kindly for the RM. I had so many issues with mine, but primarily why I couldn’t use it were issues with the display being unreadably dim in the sun, and navigation that was horrendous, wanting to take me down incorrect roads about 75 percent of the time. I had all the updates and support couldn’t fix the issues. It went back. The experience was so bad that I don’t think I could ever use another RM product, other than the paper atlas.

Yeah Really I was already in a pissy mood and it put me and 2 other trucks following me on this pig trail
Was trying to get to this ranch to unload

When you say your Garmin shows the cross-street can you describe how it shows you? Is it showing the map and if you tilt your head you can read the street name on the map or is there some portion of the display that constantly shows the name of the next cross-street?

Thanks. You saved me a lot of typing.
My new Macks have a built in GPS Tom-Tom maps, that work about as good as my 5+ yr old dezl 760 and even older 560. My use is about the same as yours.
Which reminds me, I need to ask my dealer about map updates. I already got burned a little with a newly constructed interchange that wasn't anything like it used to be LOL. A fortunately placed movie theater parking lot for a u-turn and a 2nd try fixed it though.
My 8" RM tablet, and the ELD dongle that goes with it, are the most expensive paperweights on my desk. I keep them there to remind me never do that again, no matter how tempting the new features are. To be honest, any of those services databases age out really quick. They are nothing more than advertising fluff a month after they're published. Having the big truck Atlas on the tablet was kinda nice.
Kidding aside, I think the failure of the RM tablets has to do with them being dependent on your wifi connection, and just generally being slow from not being a purpose built unit. I see more favorable reviews of their non-tablet models, probably because the guts are built into speedy hardware and not subject to being a 2nd hand process on a much more complicated platform.
That said, I don't hate all things RM. Not gonna lie, the great big laminated old people version of the regular atlas is dripping with awesome.larry2903, Hammer166 and gentleroger Thank this.
