I was a volunteer firefighter for 4 years. 2 years as a 1st responder medic firefighter. There were no seat belt laws back then. But seatbelts were being pushed to click it. I see some messed up wrecks. A few still remember like yesterday. One on prom night. Two girls in mamas car hit tele phone pole. One had seat belt on the other not. One walked a way the other didn't. Care guess which one had the seat belt on. Seeing is believing. And crazy people are force to take crazy people medicine.Because they are to crazy to know by taking the meds will help them live a long life.
Poll-Should I be forced to use a seat belt

I wear mine, but I think we should let ppl not wear them.....weeds them out of the gene pool...
Big Don Thanks this. -
Not going to argue the safety factor of seat belts....IMO anyone 18 or over should have the OPTION to wear it or NOT. Plain and simple. Do I wear mine yep...do I think there is anyone who has the right to FORCE me to do so...NOPE!
First time I got stopped, when the law first came about here, I was driving my black and gold 442, local city chief stopped me..and I told him I was NOT born in Russia, forcing me to wear a seat belt is just simply NOT right, so now write me a ticket....he just laughed and said its my job to enforce the laws, I dont make them....consider this a warning.Baack Thanks this. -
I heard that the #1 cause of drivers' death is being ejected from the vehicle . I was on Rt 495 in Mass today, came accross an accident, and a guy was laying in the break down lane being worked on .I'll wear my seatbelt.

Many many years ago (Nana's old) I was an EMT/SS . (That means EMT with Special Skills which means I was 3/4 of a paramedic lol)
Anyway........I worked a wreck where the father was DWI, mom had no seat belt on, the 5 year old had no restraint, the infant was in a car seat.
Mom was killed on impact, the baby's carseat was ripped from the seat belt and was hurled 50 ft down the road but the infant had only bruising. Dad of course like most drunks lived with only a broken leg and arm.
It took us almost an hour to find the 5 year old in the field alongside the road.
The state trooper and my male partner became physically ill. I carried that little boy out of the field in two pieces. He went through the windshield like a rocket. He hit a barbed wire fence with his neck and it cut his head off.
I placed that child in a body bag and never got on a rig again. I resigned the next day. I still have nightmares over 30 years later.
Yes I support the laws for both seat belts and child safety seats.dieselbear, GuysLady and Big Don Thank this. -
2. It keeps you in the correct position to maintain maximum control of your vechile, as well as keeping you in the position designed to keep you the safest possible in an accident, Besides your odds dramaticly decrease when you exit thru the windshield.
3. Lack of intelligence.

I have survived a wreck when I was 17 that the state trooper (friend of the family) drove to our house since he couldn't get my dad on the phone (after I was already en route to the hospital and the scene was cleaned up etc...). Trooper told my dad he needed to hurry to the hospital it might be last time he sees me alive. Granted the only reason I did survive was because I was buckled up, but even today I don't buckle up for safety. I buckle up because our dumbarses in charge mandate it.
ITS MY LIFE!! I don't want to die, but I also believe when it IS my time then a seatbelt isn't going to change my expiration date.outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
Well i was 12 yrs old riding with my grandmother in my grandpas OLD chevy K5 blazer on US 40. She was taking me to mow grass at my aunts house. Lawn mower was in the very back behind the rear seat. Some dumbarse slammed on the breaks to make a left turn with noe signal and grandma swerved to miss them. Tires got in the gravel and we proceeded to barrel roll down the embankment 6 times. I was not wearing my belt because it wasn't a LAW then grandma was. I was thrown from the passenger seat to the rear with the mower which was now on top of me leaking gasoline as we came to rest on the roof. I had minor scrapes and scratches but was fine. Grandma had a broken collarbone and lost consciousness. Could have been a lot worse for both of us but especially me. I still remember that like yesterday watching the ground roll past me and the inside of that blazer at what seemed to be 2000 mph. I wear my belt all the time. I however like most don't think the government should tell me I have too.

I DO believe the seatbelt is a great safety device. But it is not our governments responsibility to decide what is good for us. Give it a little longer at the rate we are going and our country is going to be like Demolition Man. What is not good for you is bad, and what's bad is illegal.
