Maybe you can answer this. I'm perplexed by the number of tractors at the Grand Prairie terminal.
Seems like there are always at least 100 - 200 trucks sitting there. Are they all broken down, or just not assigned.
It doesn't seem productive for that many trucks to be collecting dust. -
Wal Mart F150 ?
I always thought they
were the cats meow -
Good question...no one knows. They say they have around 50 trucks +/- sitting waiting for parts at any given time. However another driver came up with the scenario that there really isn't as many drivers working here as they claim. If you get stranded at the GP yard waiting on the shop as often as most, you end up seeing the same 20 or 30 drivers every time...what, the other 300 drivers trucks never strand them at the yard? Kinda strange.
As far as decisions in the shop, it use to be worse. Before the shop got put under Alan Mahew's jurisdiction, most of the parts room you see now wasn't a parts room. The wait for parts was worse. They now have a lot more of the regularly used parts on the shelf. But the shop management still needs cleaned out. When they put an I.T. guy, who's only experience with mechanical things is putting the key in his Corvette, runs a diesel shop simply because he has a college degree. (That degree has nothing to do with trucking or working on them), then things are going to be a fuster cluck.
When they have to order parts, the same guy at Poly America that orders light bulbs is in charge of truck parts. He then has to get 3 prices to submit for approval, once approved, he then orders them. It was rumored that he once found a great deal on replacement 5th wheels, and ordered them. When they got there, they were fixed 5th wheels, not sliders. And were for a tanker, so the mounting pivot was way taller than used for van trailers and they couldn't use them.
They also just bought a brand new pan trailer for Poltex, but something didn't mate up with their pans down their, so they had this new trailer altered, then it wouldn't work right. So they wasted all that time and money and have nothing.Last edited: Sep 27, 2015
Drive-a-Mack, tahokid and fookendummycompany Thank this. -
Mostly Dodge Chargers now and a couple BMW bikes being replaced with Honda's. We had a agreement after the BMW plant moved here. Then all of a sudden BMW didn't want the holes for radios etc etc in the cars when they got them back. The only ones left out are the ones BMW let us keep for the same reason.

any benefits for a company driver to join OOIDA

I thought these were all under a commercial lease which means that the holes are there and accepted.

I never drove one they were too small for me but that was my explanation of what happened and the motorcycles were also for that reason. There may be more to the story but I wasn't high enough on the food chain to know. I did get a Charger but it was still a tad small but would fly.
