Getting ready to replace the factory steel wear pads on my 03 379 with air trac, wondering about getting the some of those EWP poly wear pads that go over the factory steel wear pads. Owner of the company on the phone said it would add 3/8” inch onto the surface of the wear pad, I’m wondering if anyone has had experience with these or have had them cause any problems? Would adding 3/8” inch to the factory wear pad cause any issues? I know I will probably have to adjust ride height accordingly to maintain driveline angles, just curious as to everyone’s thoughts. The company told me that they didn’t think it would cause issues, just that they are usually used when Pete air trac factory steel ones are worn down and these can compensate for wear with a layer of poly, not necessarily on a brand new non worn wear pad. Thanks!
Poly wear pads for Pete air trac, need advice

I have no first hand experience with them. I would be sceptical to their longevity compared to steel. My fear is with age they may crack and spit out. Can we ask how long the originals lasted?
I think youd be ok on the angles so long as the ride height is in spec. Figuring they would always wear to the good anyhow. -
I just replaced all my wear pads last year . I would definately not use a product like that. They only last about 200k miles and should be swapped out. Most people dont swap them out and they complain of driveline noise and cant pin point the issue. When those pads wear down, it severly changes the degree of the pinion angles. They rotate the rears to the angle they were meant to have. I had to figure this out on my own. YOU SHOULD NOT have to change your ride height unless someone messed with it before hand. The ride height will travel back to where it should have been before the pads wore down. My ride height went up almost an inch when i finished the last wear pad. Pulled out my driveline analyzer from spicer and low and behold my pinion angles changed in too spec and truck whispers going down the road. You can never use peterbilts ride height specs. Only drive line angles. Why, becuase petes specs are for a new truck. Alot of factors to factor in on an old truck. Worn front springs, worn tires worn rear springs, etc etc.

Thank you guys for your input! So much great knowledge and experience here. This is my first air trac truck and it has rode pretty badly since I first bought it a few months ago, now a driveline vibe. Joints feel tight but definitely a little play in the splines. Whole driveline is getting rebuilt in a few days. The truck has 1.3 million on it pulling a lowboy and it now pulls an end dump. I didn’t know how badly those wear pads were worn until seeing a new Pete pad, these old ones are atrocious. Worn completely flat. It’s a wonder it hasn’t tore the driveline up sooner, but it did only recently start to vibrate a little over 60mph while coasting. I don’t know how long the originals lasted but they look like they’ve been on it forever. Don, it’s great to know how much of an improvement your wear pads made to your truck. I’ll stick to factory pads and be sure to update when I get them fixed this weekend. Driveline shop is going to analyze angles after pads and driveline are fixed, looking forward to getting this thing back to working right!
