As a driver we have no status. Not a customer to keep happy and coming back.
Making deliveries I am often surprised no one in the building seems to want to take in thousands of dollars worth of product someone in the building has paid for.
I agree with the OP it is something that sours me about trucking. At least OTR trucking where I have to deal with many shippers/receivers. I ran US Mail for awhile and super enjoyed the set route with none of that nonsense to deal with.
I also agree with other posters. Drivers can be the problem. Who would want to deal with this lot of misfits, often with horrible attitudes.
I just call everyone in trucking, other drivers, shippers, receivers "buddy". "Thanks buddy", "Ok, buddy", "will do buddy". Not really killing anyone with kindness but adding that simple word has made life easier.
Poor Treatment from shippers and recievers

it comes with the job unfortunately about 10 % of shippers and receivers will be like that however you did the right thing by informing your supervisor who hopefully will get in touch with the receivers supervisor and something can be worked out.Steel Dragon Thanks this.

When I was otr and would run across the occasional ahole I'd try not to sweat the small stuff. In an hour or two you get to drive away and that sob is stuck in the same ol crap...everyday.
WesternPlains, truadvocate, Steel Dragon and 1 other person Thank this. -

OH, THE HORROR!!

Winner.
It’s a control thing. If someone can piss you off, or push your buttons, they can control you. Being easily controlled is a sign of weakness in a Man.Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
After thinking about it I start to agree.I have ran into rude, just plain mean people on docks everywhere. However I seem to want to remember more in the NE area. A case in point and how I handled it. I was lost trying to make a delivery in Mass. I parked my rig and walked to where a guy was sitting on a forklift and I walked up to him. Before I could say much of anything he barked out I'M ON THE PHONE in a mean hateful way. I'm not a violent person. However I hand jumped onto that dock and started walking toward him. Needless to say I told him where I was about to place that phone. I'm not proud of it, and I had to deal with the local cops. It is just that it does seem over my time on the road I ran into more situations in the NE where I was ready to rearrange a face.Steel Dragon Thanks this.

I never have problems anymore working with a smaller carrier.
I mainly haul truck parts supporting paccar truck production
Most suppliers are local family run businesses like machine shops.
No more Walmart bs!

-
The good thing is, since you deliver for Paccar, you have great job security. You'll ALWAYS need parts for those engines!Steel Dragon Thanks this.

If you give a pig a clean sty. He’ll keep it clean. Not so with humans.aussiejosh and Steel Dragon Thank this.
