Linehaul jobs posted in my area “require 1 year experience or will train the right applicant”. Means if you dont hit nothing on your road test you hired. I been Line Haul 25 years,,,same schedule every night. When I was hired you required 7 years experience with 3 years pulling trains...the bars been lowered!!

You’ll also need Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.

I'd be interested in something like water or wastewater plant operator. There are lots of those around here, all the refineries have their own WW treatment.

What kind of certifications are required, and what kind of pay can the FNG make starting out?

That depends on your states requirements.

most have a test for the beginner ww operator license

the pay is totally driven by supply and demand in your location.

The only thing that would stop me from looking into wastewater treatment would be the smell. Wouldn't affect me in the slightest, but would I smell like a porta-john every night when I come home? And develop a permanent fecal odor that won't go away despite how hard I shower?

Kind of figured Hazmat and Tanker would be required, but I wasn't 100% sure unless someone stated that they were needed.

I am aware that CDL Class A drivers are held to a higher standard. Got truck drivers in the family that prefer not to drive 4 wheelers (their personal vehicle or another person's vehicle) if they can help it.

I Don’t have any experience with that.
But you get used to it.
And don’t smell it anymore After a while
Same as working at a paper mill
It smells almost as bad as the poo poo plant .
You’d Probabaly be in the control room most of the time , or maybe taking water samples to send to a lab.

I work with leaky underground fuel tanks.
Mrs roundhouse always complains that I come home smelling like gasoline.
And I have tossed several changes of clothes in the trash.
I keep a spare change of clothes in the work truck and I have changed and tossed em in the dumpster at the gas station before I left the job site .

and gasoline Thats been underground , soaked up in soil , for 10 or 15 or 20 years
Really really reeks. It smells like gasoline and sewage mixed together .

I could have sworn I read about penalties and insurance rates for CDL holders being more severe and strict than that of a person with a normal drivers license. I know everything you do in your personal vehicle certainly affects your CDL Drivers License but I thought penalties and insurance rates were more strict with CDL holders as well.

Can anybody comment on this or is this a myth about the insurance and penalty thing being stricter/more harsh for CDL holders than for regular drivers license holders?

Or for example if you get in a wreck/accident in your personal vehicle then you'll be "guilty until proven innocent" like we are in the 18 wheelers because of having the CDL license? Or am I off here? I might be I don't know.

The penalties are more severe for CDL holders in that the C portion of the DL gets suspended if you’re convicted of more than two moving violations in two years or something like that. I’m sure someone will chime in with the exact details. And I don’t think those violations have to happen in a commercial vehicle .

always obey every traffic law and always attempt to negotiate the ticket down with the prosecutor or judge or hire an attorney for EVERY moving violation in any vehicle.
Do NOT just plead guilty and pay it.

Because the general public would come unglued if they got a $300 ticket for a burnt out license plate light
