been pondering a new carreer in truck industry. Have the $ for the schooling. Thinking of truck america as the school to attend.

here is the list of possibly prehires

    TMC
    ROEHL
    SWIFT
    WERNER
    US EXPRESS

my question is, for a guy who's absolutely not gonna put up with MAJOR BS, and definatelyy dont want to get into a situation as to where i hurt myself as far as being able to get a "good" job after some experience, which of these company's would in your opinion be the best for me to try to start with,... these days.... ive read good and bad from em all i was just wondering how they are doing now, especially with the new police force that is is to be in effect by the end of 2010, i was wondering if any of these guy may have tightened the ship so to speak.

After a year or two i can probably get on with a Estes, And after 6months i was told by Conway frieght that i would be able to get on with them. I have a clean record and a clean nose, i dont want to screw this up. Trucking is probably my last chance at a profitable career as im 34 and have no means to go to school. 15 yrs of pouring concrete and basement walls has got me nowhere, and with the econ the way it is its not looking like it will anytime soon, so im ready for a change. My real goal is to run for the big E (estes) as an LTL driver. I have a good friend there, he is doing very well and highly recomended that i try to get on with him.

If you're not going to put up with major BS forget it . CDL mill graduates are a dime a dozen . Carriers hiring them have no respect for them knowing if one leaves a thousand more are begging to take his place .

ill say it dont sound too promising. I really like TMC. and flatbedding, Hard work im not scared of as ive lugged aroung wall forms and poured concrete for many years. but being pushed to run illegal, is mainly what im scared of. The last thing i want is too be sittin in the pokey after killing somebody or myself over being pushed too far.

There are some opportunities but you have to beat the odds with all the other applicants .
    Read this thread . http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/maverick/101564-heading-for-little-rock.html
Jim beat the odds . It took more than luck but there was some luck in getting hired .
As far as being pushed goes just say no and document it . There are some carriers out there that are very strict on compliance . It doesn't take much reading here to learn which carriers to avoid . Most flatbed carriers are o.k. .

wonder if thier still pushy as they seemed to be in the 138 page post i coulndt make it thru...lol i mean with the new policing to be in effect by the end of this year, it would seem like all companies would have to buckle down and be a lil bit less pushy on the drivers, but i dunno. all i have is words from ppl on sites like this and words from my truking buddies to go by. Ideffinately cant put faith in recruiters as i been recruited by the armed forces before and I know what recruiters are all about. Its a big decision $5000 cash and 2 months with no pay will put me under the ground if it dont work out.

Maybe i can find a local family run company to let me run for cash for a year or two, i doubt it but it may be worth a shot. thats how a couple i Know got thier start but it was in better times. Im not looking to strike it rich quik. i just need a half decent company to run for and pay some bills for a couple years then i can get on at big E. I m almost certain. And if frieght was to pick up they say possibly they may wave the two year requirement and i can get on sooner.

I would go with USX as my first followed by Roehl. My reason for USX is they have changed a lot and have restructured their training program for students. USX has a 64 question long test of the material you and your trainer went over and a detailed driving portion for the upgrade. Good luck whatever company you choose.
