I posted a while back about having a newborn and the way and wanting to break into driving. Well my newborn is here and I am ready to try and start driving. I have checked into a few local haulers in my area and got into a school for class A. Elmer Buchta trucking is hiring in my area anybody have any info on them. They seem to be the best option so far. I was wondering what kind of pay I can exect dont want to ask for to little of pay. Currently I make about 25000/year at my factory job I was hoping for 35 or 40 working 6 days a week long hours. Wishful thinking? I would like for my wife to stay home with the kid but would need to bring home 2500 a month to get this done. What do you think cna ya help a newbie out. By the way little boy 6lbs 8oz Lucas Pleze Smith healthy as a horse.

Most likely you'll have to stay out for 3-4 weeks at a time then get 3-4 days home time.....unless you find a local route, BUT those usually want 2 years experience..I've been driving OTR for 2 years and am ALWAYS looking for a local driving job.....still looking those guys don't give em up too easy.

Good luck and congratsz on the kid!

35-40k is reasonable for a new driver. I would say no problem to that.

Entirely possible if you do your homework and the legwork to find the right company. Think smaller and not one of the majors or the bottom feeders. They're out there but you have to find them, they don't find you. I made 44k first year and I'm home every weekend.

It's too late. Don't let your kid grow up without you. It's worth more to see your kid grow up.

do the legwork/homework. It IS possible to make 35-40k a year running local and be in your own bed at night. Im doing close to 60k a year and sleep in my bed every day and rarely work weekends. congrats on the baby.

Its all about the company you sign on too. Do youre homework and dont let over bearing recruiters push you into a decision. I would suggest Werner or TMC (if you dont mind flatbed). From what Ive heard they are the most competitive pay rates for new drivers. Good Luck!

It will depend on where you live. I am in Kansas City so it is the middle of the US. Pay here is $16/hr for local. You work 60 hours a week but there is no time and a half. $960 a week, $49000 plus a year. Over the road is 40 cents a mile, average 2500 or 1000 a week $52000 plus a year. Rates are higher based on performance. Driving 62 miles an hour seems to make the most money. Taking anything they give you to haul works out best. Running 14 days and then doing a 2 day reset at the house. Is the highest paying over the road company driver formula. Local gets to see the kids grow up. Your 60 hours start about 4 AM and you have weekends off.
