Are there any training school's out there that would start someone out on a smaller sized truck once they finish training as a new driver?

What is a smaller truck? You talking about a non combination (straight truck) or a school that teach you on pup trailers? Need to be alittle more clear my friend.

Do you mean like a 40' as opposed to a 53'? The company that hired me is starting me in 40' flatbed. 13 feet smaller than the average truck.

What?....The longer and wider they are...The easier they are to work with....And believe me....Running down the ribbon with two or more escorts....A load that is 16' or wider...100' long.....14' tall....Everybody will move out of your way.....:biggrin_25523::biggrin_25525:

Will any of them start you on smaller sized straight trucks?

If your going for your B licenses yes. If you want your CDL - A, your going to have to drive big rig my friend. I am curious as to why you want to learn on a smaller truck? If you care to share (nervous or your wanting to drive B trucks only). All us drivers have been where you were trying to figure out what to do when learning. (Well us drivers who didn't get grandfather in no offense to those driver).

Just nervous I guess. I don't really want the responsibility of driving a huge 18 wheeler, looking at some of the pics on here scared the #### out of me too..lol. Like the crashes and ####..I'd feel better if I could start smaller. But there aren't many schools that train and hire new drivers, so I was curious if any of them could start drivers on smaller trucks. I got a list of the schools from here, there's 14 schools on there.

I started with a 28' trailer and a single axle day cab, I was then told go to Boston MA (lol at NYC) and have fun (alone

They seem overwhelming at first, but once you get behind the wheel it eases up. Just when in doubt get out and look, if you want to drive a straight truck, I would suggest starting in a tri axle so you can learn to drive a straight cut trans so you Atleast know how to shift

Don't be nervous. Yes I was nervous getting into this and thought the same thing you did. But I took a chance and gave it a shot, let me tell you it was the best decision I've made. Don't look at pictures if they are making the thought of driving a big rig unsettling for you because some of those pictures are caused by things (not saying all crashes) that could of been avoided by the driver (I know i sound like safety haha). If you go into this with the mind set of nothing but being safe in mind then you will do fine.
