I'm doing a valve job on my '46 JD D. Surprisingly JD in town has every gasket I need except one still available. The one that is not available will be easy to make. It's great that they have them but they are proud of them....... The two gaskets in the picture would have ran me $176.00. I found a guy who had these and they are nos for $68.00. What'd I do wrong now? I know what you're pointing out but I didn't know it was a regulation to follow.

    DD It's not a regulation.
The way you did it is my preferred method.
That hook will stay hooked to the trailer even if the chain slacks for some reason.
Problem is not all manufacturers stake pockets are equal! some aren't rated to be hooked that way.

And, or is that chain pot near your binder hook?

Short chains are the way to go! right.. Not left wondering what to do with the other ten feet of chain!

Yes there's quite a few chain pulls. I was trying to go back more instead of more of a side pull. If that makes sense

I would prefer to bring the chain in-front of the stake pocket around the stake pocket and back up. That way the chain is against the stake pocket all the away around it.. So basically your hook will be on the other side of the pocket compare to what you have. Or hook the hook back on the chain.

Not that there is anything wrong with the way you have done it...
