Well, what you might do is keep a close eye out for ones other guys throw away as junk, that have at least your desired length left.
I have boxes of straps n chains tucked away, don't wear many out & those that do seem to always be very near the hook for whatever reason.
So I keep my eyes open at shippers n receivers that are occasionally serviced by big carriers; in my experience those are the likeliest candidates to chuck a full strap if there's any kind of cut or damage. Sometimes they're right, sometimes I get one for free + razor time while I'm loaded.

Oh, n melt the ends n squeeze them thin after you cut to keep them from fraying; just case if someone else reading this don't know that.

I got a couple short straps, due to them getting nicks or cuts in them
I need to get some more 40 foot straps
    Makes securing crates easier

We ship out of a place that makes straps. We sometimes take our old hooks there to have new strap sewn on. If I can't scrounge enough soon I'll cut a new strap in half and get one made, so 2 for 1.

I loaded/worked with an older guy in Kansas that had all different length straps. All labeled and stored by length. I was impressed.

You use a lighter to melt the end? Dang thing gets hot after the first one lmao

I usually cut mine with a hammer that eliminates the strayed ends, but a propane torch works for melting the ends.

"Oh you have a lighter out to melt a strap, better get the wind blowing on this dead air day!"

Or try a propane torch when you're in the yard. N press it on the deck n roll it out with a can or bottle.

I have some short straps but I never seem to use them. I keep them separate from my regular straps and seem to forget about them.

I have a bunch that are 22' long. Use them all the time. Any shorter won't work for what I need them for. Amazing how much nicer they are to use than a 30' strap.

I have one with no hook and two 10 footers. No hook is incase I need to belly wrap something that I can pull from both sides. The 10 footers hold dunnage.

Load of 2x10 Lam stock the other day. Just shy of 37000 board feet, 69410 pound payload. Not near as much as the guys up north, but pretty decent for being 104500 gross down here.
