Okay, that's good. On first pass they looked like coils. I'm like... "stupid shipper".
At the very least, you'd think he would put in three. One forward, one back and one down. But seeing pictures of 45K steel coils rolling down the road with 3-4 5/16" chains and binders, this honestly doesn't surprise me.
The concept of Working Load Limit exceeds some people's intellectual capacity. Trust me, I train people in the classroom about this stuff. They sit there with a glazed look on their face. I have to simplify the process for them.
Eh, that steel strapping wrapped around all of them should be enough! Throw a couple straps and get down the road driver!!![]()

Things are slowly getting back to normal. After spending the last month or so in between doing the door run into Saskatchewan, two classes of orientation, completely overhauling the orientation class and recovering from the smack to the noggin, I finally got some proper flat deck wheel time.
I got sweaty, I got dirty, it was amazing. -
You don't know how much that belting weighed, 2 chains was probably enough to meet the requirements...

Probably didn't need the straps on the bottom row. Definately looks goofy. -

That first big bump is what loosens twisted links and straitens crooked lines of pull in the chain.
With one chain straight down and another 2 going front and back you have some redundancy when one decides to loosen up.
Sorry but only 2 chains is laziness the way I see it.Chewy352, cke, skootertrashr6 and 7 others Thank this. -
Two loads we did today.
PeteyFixAll, cke, Ruthless and 8 others Thank this. -
I would've probably threw 3 on it, I'm guessing but that roll of belting doesn't weigh over 10,000. Years ago I hauled a whole trailer full of wider ones than that and I don't remember it being really heavy stuff.
There's enough guys out here not legally securing their freight that I try not to bash on the guys who are too bad.
That said, there's no such thing as too much securement on a load, I'm hauling a boom lift now that weighs 22,000 and I have 4 chains and 2 straps on it.Orangees, snowman_w900, Razororange and 6 others Thank this.
